Apparently Santa is bringing me a new washer and dryer (in addition to the Cartier Roadster he dropped off a little earlier, but that is a topic for another thread :cheeky: ) because my Maytag Neptune had decided not to spin any more.

I actually ordered one yesterday but now that I'm looking at more info there is apparently a "steam" option available...??? What does this do? I read in one review you can throw things in there that would normally get dry cleaned? Gets wrinkles and odors out? How does that work...?

Help me... delivery is scheduled for 9 am Tuesday so if I change the order it has to be first thing tomorrow!

Oh -- and a merry x-mas to all! :wavey:

Re: Help -- buying a new washer TOMORROW!!! Steam option...

DeeJay, I think it is totally worth it. If you have a garment that say you wore for a little while but it doesn't look dirty, you can throw it in
and it will completely freshen it up and make it look freshly laundered. We use this option all the time. The machine uses bursts of steam to remove odors and wrinkles, and it works much better than putting in a garment with something damp, which is how I used to get
wrinkles out. It's awesome in my opinion, and I wouldn't want to go back to having a dryer without it.

The steam washer gets out stains and sanitizes much better. I don't use that quite as often, but it comes in handy when you have something that totally grosses you out and you want to make sure it is really clean.

I don't have one but hear they are fabulous.

I don't have a steam washer but I do have a steam dryer and LOVE it. I love being able just to freshen up a top or something that has too many wrinkles in it.

Great feature - go for it!

Merrry Christmas Dee Jay!!! I am looking for a new washer too. I would love a steam otion. I am limited methinks cause I have 25 inches across with a little wiggle room and most of the new ones are far exceeding that....

I say go for it. Are you staying withy Maytag??

Any advice for me with limited space?? My matag is leaking...Still runs, but this can't go on for much longer, LOL...

Re: Help -- buying a new washer TOMORROW!!! Steam option...

Hey DeeJay, one thing I thought of last night to tell you-when you use the steam option on a washer, at least on mine, it dramatically
increases the amount of time needed to complete the wash cycle. Mine goes to over two hours for one load. This is probably the thing
that keeps me from using that cycle the most.

Re: Help -- buying a new washer TOMORROW!!! Steam option...

Thanks for the replies all! I hadn't thought of the steam DRYER until I read the posts... so of course I went back to the store and bought BOTH a steam washer AND steam DRYER  .

And they are being delivered tomorrow so there will be a bit of a laundry fest here in the Dee Jay household!

Lisa, can you go to 27"? Samsung WA5471ABW is steam. That's the smallest one I can find... But you are welcome to bring your clothes over to my house!

I have the Samsung! I love it. Just make sure you use the tinest amount of soap. Literally, it looks like about a tablespoon. That way your pump won't gum up. It almost makes laundry less of a chore!
