a Tivo-aholic!

Anyone else out there?

My dh got it for me for my birthday because I was co-sleeping with ds (and that meant going to bed with him at 7 every night!) so that I could keep up with my favorite shows, but even now that I can stay up like a normal person I find myself only watching things if they have been recorded. I LOVE it, and it''s only making my tv addiction worse! And I have to admit, when he first got it I didn''t care if it was Tivo or just a dvr from the cable company, but I really LOVE the Tivo suggestions function most of the time!

Ha ha - DH got me into DVR. Until I met him, I didn''t know what I was missing! We both have a terrible time watching "live" TV now, because we have to suffer through the commercials.
But you''re making me terribly jealous of your Tivo and its suggestion function!! Tell us more!

My mom LOVES their Tivo! She uses it all the time. We just have a DVR and it''s worked well for us so far, but a Tivo would be nice to have some day.

I absolutely love it! I can't stand watching anything live now and having to watch commercials makes me grouchy

We also go to bed at 10 every night, so we would miss out on a ton of shows we actually like if we didn't have dvr.

I have the cable provided dvr, and my parents have Tivo and they seem about the same to me. Except we've had a lot of problems with dvrs (we've had 3 in just 2 1/2 years) and they've had the same Tivo forever with no issues. But at least our dvr gets replaced for free I guess.

I am so jealous.

We don''t have it

. I always miss the tv shows I want to watch and it makes me crabby.

Basically, you rate tv shows by giving them 1, 2, or 3 thumbs up, or 1, 2, or 3 thumbs down (the thumbs are buttons on the remote). Based on your ratings, Tivo records shows that it thinks you will like. The more you rate, the more accurate the suggestions are. And the suggestions are always the first to be deleted if you need more room.

So far I haven''t found any new shows to watch from it, but when there''s nothing on live tv and I don''t want to watch one of my recorded shows because I''m multitasking and not really paying attention, I peruse the suggestions and can usually find something like Friends or SATC that it''s recorded for me that I can put on in the background.

Love it, no commercials for us

Ahahahaha. I am a TIVO loser. I bought one and then it sat in the box for two years before I donated it to charity yard sale.

I am so frustrated with the DVR option on cable that I am rethinking the TIVO again.

we adore our DVR. we first got a TiVo about 6 years ago and since then we have had 2 TiVo's and now we use the DirecTV DVR system. they used to partner with TiVo but no longer. the old school TiVo's were fun...my friend modified ours to give us over 100 hours of DVR space (back then it was a big deal as TiVo only could record 30!). i saw some ad for a Comcast one (cable provider in our area) that now records up to 4 shows at once. ahhh how far things have come!!

once you go DVR you NEVER go back. we were just talking last nite about how amazing it is. we recorded the whole series of the Godfather on thanksgiving weekend and have been starting to slowly watch it.

TiVo is the 'original' but i always wonder how much longer they will stay in business, their contracts have really fallen off and i know the company has had hard times (it's local). but i hope they make it or someone buys them.

With our cable provided DVR, we can record only two shows at one time, and if you want to watch something else, you have to cancel one of the recordings. That''s the main thing that we don''t like. My husband was complaining last night about it -- that and TWC''s service overall. Searching for shows/movies isn''t as easy as it was on Comcast. My husband wants to check Verizon FiOS because he heard that the service is better and channels come a la carte (which we''d LOVE). That doesn''t seem to be available in our area though.

Zoe, when it''s recording two shows, are you able to watching something else that has already been recorded? Mine won''t let us watch live tv if two shoes are recording, but I can watch something already recorded.

And about FiOS, I''d love to get it too, but it''s not available here either

We can get AT&T Uverse though - I wonder how that is.

We don''t have TIVO, but we do have DVR and we LOVE it. Heaven forbid we watch something live and not be able to FF thru the commercials!

At&T U verse is awesome. You think your life changed when you were able to record two shows at one time. Once you can tape FOUR shows, the world is a better place

hi Sabine, we don''t live in the States, but we are tv addicts. we live in Holland so downloading off the Internet is legal and we get to watch all the new shows (without commercials) the day after they air in the States, plus many movies hitting the theaters now.

what are your favorite shows to watch?

mine are Lost, Psych, How I Met Your Mother, House, SNL, 24, The Tudors, Better Off Ted

others I watch but are not my favorite:

V, The Mentalist, Castle, Smallville, Stargate Universe, Two and Half Men, FlashForward, Vampire Diaries, Dexter, 10 Things I Hate About You, Secret Life of an American Teenager

unfortunately it looks like many shows are taking a break over December

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I'll have to try it out.

Noel -- my husband and I watch different shows much of the time, but the ones we both love are Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, and Private Practice. We also watch 24 every year, although it's so over the top it's stupid at this point (but it's fun to watch anyway).

i didn''t think i''d get that into it, but now we that we have at&t u-verse, my oh my, how i love it!!! i always have something good to watch!
