How are you all?

I'm so sorry to have neglected PS for such a long time! I've gotten very heavily into photography since receiving a Canon 450D SLR from FH for my birthday in Feb, so during my lurk mode I started to wonder what everyone else does for a hobby, other than gems.

What interests you outside the world of PS?

Oh, so I''m not the only one who''s interested in that! LOL!

I like painting, that''s what I do when I have the time.

I love reading and watcging movies eating popcorns at the same time

I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen, and thanks to my BF, I am starting to take a bigger interest in beer and homebrewing. Used to be big into tennis and running, but I busted up my knee a few years ago, and I haven''t quite been able to get back into it.

Not good that old hobbies involved burning calories and new hobbies involve ingesting them. Hmmm...

I didn''t answer the question so my hobbies outside diamonds are horses, cars - especially Jaguar and the Triumph Stag British sportscar, baking, perfume and playing the piano.

I am sure I can think of a few more!

Hi Nebe! It''s been a while!

As for hobbie, right now they include LOOKING for a DSLR so I can take better pics for my food blog, which has been consuming a ton of time lately.

I also love to rock climb, I''m an automotive enthusiast of the AWD variety, love WRC and Tae Kwon Do. I also love to garden, and have been growing a pretty nice potted veggie/herb garden this year.

I probably have too many hobbies.

Let''s see . . . . hunting, motorcycles, music, hunting, triathlons/running, carpentry/home improvement, hunting, acting/theater, cooking (esp. grilling) and oh, did I mention hunting.

I got DH a Nikon D80 for his b-dai a few months ago, and we''ve been using it to get pictures of the baby. Isn''t it fun?

My hobbies are cross stitching, reading, and softball. All of which I havn''t done much of since the baby arrived.

We used to surf when we lived in Cali, but there aren''t any waves here in Arizona.

Hi!! Over the last year I bought a new (to me!) car, FH and I purchased and renovated a home that we''re madly in love with. I took a few semesters off of school but I''m going back in Fall to complete my pre-med courses to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife andddddd... we''re celebrating out three year anniversary in August & are still madly in love with eachother!
30.gif
FH and I talk about marriage and children all the time, but we''ve decided to wait to get engaged until I''m at least halfway done with my degrees (that''ll be a couple more years, but that''s okay). So, until then, I''m a LIW destined to top the list quite soon.

How are you and your family?

Photography but I am pretty sure I have spammed my work all over the boards enough already so I won''t bore you lol.

Yep, and with getting married in October, something is going to have to give. Luckily most of these will still be compatible--hunting season and motorcycle season are different times of year (and she already knows I'm not giving these up), we have already talked about various home improvement projects to tackle, so that is useful & safe and I'm pretty sure she will let me cook just about anytime
2.gif
. I will have to cut down on the music and theater and go to just a few road races/tris each year--that's OK, she's worth it.

9.gif
RUNNING, and TRAINING for races.

I''m so glad to hear that you''re continuing your education, nebe. Even if you''ve met Mr. Right, it will be like $$$ in the bank, and as my dad was fond of saying, it''s something that can never be taken away from you.

I drilled the same message into our kids'' brains, but it took our daughter a long time to realize that Mom was right after all. About a year and a half ago she received her accreditation as an accountant (CGA) - one of the proudest moments in my life was seeing her walk across that stage at graduation!

Our son listened to me a little more closely and now is the vice prez of the largest demolition company in Canada. Every Mother''s Day, he writes a personal note in my card thanking me for my advice. Luckily, he and his family live in the same town as we do so we see them often.

My hubby and I have been remodelling (with a lot of contractors'' help!
9.gif
) our current two storey home with the plan of selling it and moving into a single storey ranch. There''s only one ''problem'' - we like our reno so much that neither of us is in a big hurry to move right now.

As far as bling is concerned, I''ve had to be super good and just lurk on PS, living vicariously through others'' beauties.

I hope you drop into PS as often as possible as I look forward to your posts.

Welcome back Nebe!
My main hobbies would be anything animal related and going to the gym. I love reading and cooking as well.

Gym, gym, and more gym! I love to try new recipes, and I have a youtube channel on natural haircare!

cooking, reading, yoga, tennis, dogs, snow skiing...I want to start learning a new language.

Probably the hobby that I love the most is interior decorating. Other than that, I love to read, loved learning about a range of thigns, I really love to bake and to a lesser extent, cook. I like running and working out also.

good thread, nebe :)

i have a passion for the written word and love to write - books, articles, blogs, and so on and so on.

my biggest time consumer is my dogs - walks, shows, grooming, games and cuddling...takes a huge % of my day.

my husband and i are on our 13th house; we''ve bought, renovated and re-sold constantly in the past tho have run out of stamina a bit over recent years, so tend to be staying in them longer now. i love all things aesthetic tho, and am often asked to redecorate friends'' houses or help with small projects. i did a large project for a friend in LA a while ago which necessitated me living there for about 3 months. we re-did the house from top to toe prior to sale and made, after expenses, around 200k clear profit from the original quotes we had of what its estimated sale price would be. they were very happy! but i love all forms of design - clothes, jewelry, gardens, and so on and so on. i''ve ''done'' the weddings of all my closest girlfriends, a thing i enjoy very much. (who doesnt enjoy a wedding?!)

i like cooking and do reasonably regular dinner parties. we''re members of Zagat and enjoy attending their dinners and learning more about food and what the various chefs around NY are doing.

i play bridge (with my husband as my partner) and i love perfumes. i only wear about 4, but i read about them a lot and collect books on the topic. i also collect antique china.

and i love my friends. they''re probably my biggest interest of all and i put a great deal of time into them. my best girlfriend from australia is currently here for a 3 month visit and my other closest friend from home was here two months last year. i have a very dear friend in LA and i go out to see him regularly. one of my dogs lives with him, too, so i stay with him when i want to visit her. :)

i used to be a gym junkie til my back exploded on my in 2005, but i do hope to get back into some kind of regular exercise at some point soon.

compared to these things, my interest in jewelry is actually pretty small!

Hi nebe
35.gif
, welcome back!

It''s funny that I don''t think of myself as having hobbies because I''m always so darned busy with my house, my husband and my dogs, cooking every night and our volunteer work; but I love watching movies for relaxation and during this time of year I like to walk a few times a week, garden - annuals, perennials, and tomato and veggies, and cook everything on the gas grill and eat outside whenever possible. I also love shopping the sale racks in all of my usual stores. A good deal makes me very happy! I picked up some Jones New York in Macy''s last week for 50% off and the season hasn''t even started yet!

I''m going to start repainting my house soon, one room at a time. I wouldn''t call that a hobby but I like interior decorating and keeping the house neat and nice looking.

I looooooove gardens! I''m going to start a patio garden very soon, actually. We have tons of squirrels though, any helpful hints on keeping them out?

running, lifting, cars, sports, sex.......in no particular order.

It''s interesting that we have a lot of squirrels too, but they don''t bother my veggies. My husband put a two foot tall wire fence around my whole growing area, but I really don''t think the fence is a deterent because squirrels can climb and leap onto anything. Maybe someone else will know how to keep the squirrels away.

nebe, a good tip for starting a veggie garden that will boom with tomatoes or anything else you decide to grow is to use an organic pre-composted soil called "Bumper Crop". We switched to Bumper Crop and organic fertilizer and lyme about three years ago and our plants go crazy.

This is gross, but male (human) urine, helps keep wild rodents out.

Lauren''s right about human urine keeping animals away, but I wasn''t sure it worked for squirrels. My girlfriend who has a house on the east end of the Island and my husband''s uncle just a few miles down the road from my friend have terrible problems with deer eating everything - veggies and flowering plants. They pee in a jar in the house and then pour it around the perimeter of the space they''re trying to protect. It''s funny but it is supposed to work!
