I''m getting married in roughly two months and I think I''m having second thoughts about my dress. My fiance and I are eloping and I bought a beautiful designer dress to wear that is lavendar. We''re having pictures taken by a wonderful photographer so that we can share them with family and friends. My dress was a bit controversial with family and friends, mostly because it is not "white". But, I loved the dress and decided that I needed to make the decision for myself. Since I bought the dress, I''ve given up "looking" at bridal magazines or pictures of dresses in general.

Well, last night, I was surfing online at J.Crew and saw a beautiful, new dress and it''s making me have second thoughts. I wasn''t searching for it, just looking at some of the "party" dresses for something to wear to a wedding in the fall.

Please tell me that I''m just being crazy and that I don''t actually need to buy it.

Here are pictures of my dress: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/another-shoe-accessories-help-thread.90849/

Here''s a link to the J.Crew dress: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/womens/forthebride/PRDOVR~96062/96062.jsp

I like the dress you bought.. but I prefer the dress you have seen. If you went ahead and bought the new one you would definitely get wear out of the old one. Parties etc....

I really like your lavander dress.
That being said, there is only really one time you get to wear a long white dress and that is getting married. I think the j.crew has some of the same look of your 1st dress in that it is simple yet has great details and they both look 1920s to me. I don''t think you can go wrong with either.
I would keep the 1st and wear it to a celebration of your wedding party or some other event.
PLus j.crew has amazing return policies so there is no harm in buying it and trying it on and then deciding. who knows...it could look awful! (but i doubt it with your cute fiigure)

I''m loving that J Crew one. I think it''s stunning. And I ditto Maisie in that you can wear the lavender one for other occasions, so you don''t feel like you wasted $$$ on it.

Sorry that''s not really any help...

What if you order it, see how it looks and then decide from there?

Both are really beautiful. But I'm with the others. At least order the J Crew one and see how it looks. And lala is right, when else can you really wear a long white dress like that? I think you'll get a ton of use out of the lavendar dress...maybe you can wear it to the wedding you were shopping for on J Crew?

I like both dresses; but I would choose to look less ''everyday'' and more bridal, even if I was eloping.

If you really like the second dress, and you don''t think you would have second thoughts about that one, go ahead and buy it. Based on your picture in the first dress, I think you''ll look wonderful in it.

If, however, you just feel the need to be a bit more bridal than the lavender dress, are you sure the J.Crew dress is THE dress? Do you feel the need to look around a little more, or does it seem perfect as is? You''re going to want to firm up your decision here pretty quickly!

Those are the only questions, really. It won''t hurt you to buy the second dress; it''s pretty reasonable in price. If it is what you want, go for it. You can always use the first dress anywhere: maybe a ''reception'' at some point after the elopement?

They are both nice but I definitely like the jcrew one better as a wedding dress.

SuLi,

My opinion. Go with the new dress. I know you really love your first dress, but if I am being honest, I thought it made you look a little frumpy. But then again, the only picture I saw was in the one that was not your size so I am sure it is much nicer on you in your size. I think it was also the color of the dress in the original photo I saw that I wasn''t feeling. Perhaps the lighting didn''t pick up the lavender, because it looked more on the taupe-y gray spectrum to me. But it''s hard to get the picture without seeing shoes and accessories and the dress in your size.

So that''s why I am loving the white one. It''s awesome and you would rock that dress. Even though you are eloping, I still think it''s fun to get your "Bride" on.

You can always be a two dress Bride!!

Wear both. One after the other.

With your dark hair you would totally ROCK that white dress. It''s slightly bridal, yet very modern and stylish. I can see you getting wear out of both of them at future events. For the wedding....buy the white one

, then wear the lavendar dress for dinner out.

Please try the jcrew dress. Its not like its a $3000 dress and if it doesn''t look great on you, it can always be returned. There are many other occasions in your life for the lavender one, which I agree miraclesrule looks a little less than fabulously stunning but it could just be the pics.

I am glad someone said it. The high neckline, the odd length and the gray color of the first one does look frompy in my opinion and I think you will be MUCH happier with how you look in the J crew dress.

Well, the first dress is very pretty, but it''s just that, a very pretty dress. The JCrew is more of a contemporary wedding dress so if you want to feel more bridal, I think that second dress will fit the bill better. You know, I''m a firm believer that brides who elope should not do away with a proper wedding dress if that will make them feel more bridal on their special day so...I say go with whichever one makes you feel more like a bride! You can always use the first one for a celebration dinner with family, right? For that matter, you could wear that white dress again for wedding celebrations with family/friends because you could dress that one up or down, you know?

I really like both dresses but feel that the J. Crew is the better choice. You will definitely look like a "bride" and there will be no regrets years later. Buy it and see what happens.

PS, your wedding band is dreamy and I have been searching for something similar

I'm not going to mince words:

GO WITH THE J.CREW DRESS! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

I'm wearing a J.Crew dress for my wedding in one week, and I just love it. It's the same fabric as the Gracie and feels divine. You've got an awesome figure for it, too. Plus, it's not so fancy that you feel like a bridal creampuff, and not so simple that you don't feel like a bride, if that makes any sense?

Plus, like others have said, can't hurt to order it and try it on! I just ordered my regular size and it fit fine (just had a few alterations made so I can hold up the little train and some added snaps to hold the sash for mine in place) so your costs would probably remain lower than what most brides pay for for the dress alone.

I also prefer the J.Crew dress. It''s sexy and elegant while still being informal. The lavender dress looked a bit shapeless to me, and the colour looked a bit wishy-washy, IMO.
