No I actually had considered that one! I just know depending on the weather I’m not sure I want a maxi. Like, if it rains I’m going to be so muddy. If it’s hot a barn wedding is awful. So I was hoping for a strappy side cut out for and flair with more like a knee length - but that’s close!

OK good to know. I will keep searching.

Sorry, my searching is coming up short and I realize it's not exactly what you want. I hope you find just the right dress and if I come across anything else I'll share it. In the meantime just throwing some ideas out there in case.

Any chance you'd consider a jumpsuit?

Too short?

I couldn't resist adding this one. It's called the "diamond" dress.

I love this one but it's too expensive. Adding it just in case and I think it might be your size.

Probably too big for you and too long too. But again just in case.

In black this one is on sale though the midnight color is so pretty. I know it's too long but I figure you never know.

Another thought. If you find the "perfect" dress but it't too long if it is the right shape you can hem it to the knee and it might be just perfect then. A line dresses can generally be hemmed a lot without altering the shape of it.

I absolutely love this one in the dark blue (or is it black?)! If I were not old, I would wear it to a wedding I am going to in August. (Actually, it is lower cut than anything I ever wore, so I probably would not.) But now that I am old it would be weirdly inappropriate even if I had a toned body and, sadly, I do do not. When I was younger I was too heavy to wear a dress like this. (I was too heavy in my opinion, that is. I picture this on someone like the model in this picture.) Now I am very slim, but my skin is crepey. I guess I Have to choose other styles. It sure is nice to see the dress on someone who looks great in it, though!

I agree Deb. It’s a beautiful dress. Navy I believe. And I agree with you. What is flattering now is different than what was flattering when I was younger. I believe @Niel can rock any of these styles.

@missy thank you for all your help! Actually I don’t like jump suits just because I’m somewhere between a 4 and 6 and I’m 5’10 with a longer torso - makes it hard to find one that fit rights unless it’s a “tall”

I like that one but I worry about the fabric choice. Seems like I’d swear right thought that haha

Makes sense. I have a short torso and it can be challenging finding flattering styles. I can wear petite due to my short torso but then the pants are cropped lol. My inseam is 31” and I’m only 5’6” so yeah we aren’t average off the racks much of the time.

Have you tried consignment shops? I have decent luck with those stores and have found some beautiful vintage party dresses there.

We don’t have a lot of those around here. I shop goodwill/ Salvation Army pretty often.

Could you have the red print dress that @missy linked altered to be shorter? It is a lovely dress and the price is cheap on sale.

Nothing to add except to say I wish I could wear something like that! But with no fabric to hide a bra, my hooters would look like two cats fighting under a blanket.... :errrr:

I LOVE this Red print dress for a barn wedding, and would wear it in a heart beat! I like that it has the sports bra fit on top which allows some undergarments for support. Plus, being Asian, I firmly believe red is a great color for a wedding.

That dress is basically a gored skirt, cut on the bias, unless the fabric itself is a diagonal print. And a halter top stitched to it. The stripes go the way they do because of either how a straight striped print is cut on bias, or how a diagonal pattern is pieced together to make the skirt. I'm just going to pick this quick example of a gored skirt pattern. You'd need a seam at front center and center back, to make the stripes chevron the way that designer dress does. So this pattern I link here is not the exact thing you need.

The halter top part is very simple and not much challenge for any good seamstress.

I think you’re suggesting I make this?
That’s a very terrible idea lol

I’ve ordered a game and partners dress on eBay. It’s red but it might work and was cheap.
I will report back.

My first thought was.. gored circle skirt with a pretty straightforward bodice. You can totally make this.

How long till the wedding? :)

Great dress. Have it made. Wouldn't be hard or much expense. just attach a pretty bodice to a full skirt. So easy! You'll look beautiful.

I have enough knowledge about dress making to know this would not be difficult to make.
I also know no one to do it nor the skills to attempt.

When I read this, Niel, I had a vision of you doing your own finish on your beautiful ring with the yellow gold prongs using what I remember as the equivalent of steel wool. I think we can let you make jewelry if not dresses. ;))

As someone who does sew garments (though only for folks I share a roof with), usually the process of construction isn’t that hard - that part is fairly mechanical.

For me, fitting is the real time consuming part. It can take a few rounds of fitting to get things to be aligned with the individuality of onces body.

If picking up a sewing habit isn’t something you see in your future, that’s cool. But if you do have interest, projects like this often can be a good gateway. There’s lots of excellent resources available these days to help.

Darling dress. Love the print. I am always amazed at PS'ers that can find needles in a haystack-they provided so many choices of the similar dress.
