I just mailed a bunch today, but over the past few days a number of friends and acquaintances have called me to wish me a happy holiday and we chatted for quite a while. These are people I haven''t spoken to in a while and they also mentioned that they will not be sending out holiday cards this year.

To tell you the truth I appreciate the conversation much more than receiving a card. Should I still send a card or just reciprocate and call them a few days after Christmas to wish them a happy new years and talk about how we spent the holidays instead? What are all you Psers doing?

our holiday cards have been sent.

we typically send cards to the same people. this year i created a list with names + addresses of those we sent to that way next year we can be sure to send to the same people.

I'm not feeling it this year. Only sent to my grandma. Thats it. Might change my mind later but I'm totally not feeling it. I use to send out tons of cards when I was married but just don't feel it this year. Focusing on making a happy holiday with my kids.

HI:

Funny you should post this, a I just did mine now. And I almost didn''t. With so many ways to communicate and keep in touch, cards seem almost redundant. And very few people write any personal type message anymore--just names. Who knows if I''ll go them 2010.

cheers--Sharon

Yup, I''m in touch with tons of people by email and phone. I don''t know what it is about this year, but like I said before, I just can''t get myself to do it. I even bought cards!

Working on it now. It''s about $60 at shutterfly in total but I am looking at Costco to see if maybe it''ll be cheaper.

Nope. No cards.

People will get letters from both of us with their (homemade with FI for the first time EVER!!

) gifts, though. Someone once gave me a handwritten letter in place of a birthday card, and it was such a sweet thoughtful gesture, I try to do the same. The only cards I really like are the ones with the family photo on one side.

I sent mine out the day after thanksgiving. I like to get them out early.. makes me feel like they''ll be hung up longer... more bang for my buck!
Though I''ve been sad as this year, I''ve only got one personal card from friends or family. The only other cards have been from my pet sitter, and other businesses and charities I''ve donated $ to, etc. So that was a little sad... but I''ll take any christmas cheer I can get!

Yep, sent them out Dec. 1st. We have actually received a lot less this year....figured it was due to the recession and people cutting out extras.

I just got a card from my grandparents today. I can''t believe they still send me cards every year. They are so sweet. They have like 12 other grandkids that are actually kids. Gotta love em!

I''m working on it. I''m kind of late this year.

Since we are sending out thank you notes for the wedding we thought we''d just combine the two..is that terrible? lol

We do picture cards and I''m picking them up tomorrow. I''ll be working on mailing them out hopefully by Thursday at the latest.

I ordered them and am waiting to receive them. I had a late start this year.

Mine were mailed the day after Thanksgiving. I sent about 40 cards. I wrote a note/message of some sort on each on. I love holiday cards. Am sad I''ve only recieved three or four. My husband tells me one year I''m going to figure out this is a dying tradition, I''m not ready to be done with Christmas cards yet.

I''m with the "got a late start" crowd. My cards are set to arrive tomorrow and will go out at the end of the week. It''s a lot of work but I love sending and receiving them!

DH loves sending out Christmas cards and we used to send over 100 handwritten cards to coworkers, friends and family. We''ve had major health issues and we''ve lost our parents and that took away the desire. We didn''t send any cards last year and have received very few this year.

I''m determined to send some, though, and have gone the photo card route for the very first time. We will get them out in the next day or so.

We haven''t mailed ours out yet. We aren''t sending out regular cards though, BF thought it would be wonderful to have a play by play of what happened throughout the year. There''s like 7 pictures of us with little sayings, they''re supposed to be comical. But then he wanted to send that out to everyone so we''re including a little snippet of what actually happened over the year.
They''re super labor intensive and BF got sick this weekend and now I don''t feel good, I''m hoping we''re able to finish them soon.

Ha! Mine went in the mail today, but DH hasn''t started his half. We send about a hundred and receive the same.

I did as of Dec 1st but not near as many as I used to and I didn't include our yearly newsletter (usually short) just too much going on this year

I sent mine. I wrote a few personal notes. I was going to include a form letter but just dislike sounding like I''m bragging so decided to forgo it.

After reading this thread, I went ahead and ordered thru snapfish. I usually send mine out late anyway.lol I guess I am a procrastinator.

Last year I had so many Christmas cards that I didn''t even know where to hang them! This year, I''ve gotten THREE. Bizarre, isn''t it? I guess people weren''t in the mood this year.

I had no idea this was such a widespread custom.

I''ve never sent out holiday cards and likely never will. When I get them, I hardly ever open them (I''m pretty bad about opening mail in general and toss a lot of it unread). So, with that bias firmly established, my view is that it''s absolutely not necessary to send people cards if you''re in touch by other means and especially if the other party has already told you that they''re not sending cards out. A reciprocal phone call is a nice gesture and more than sufficient.

Save the trees!

No cards. Don''t send them, don''t get any. Using FB to wish all my friends and family a Merry Christmas.
