All this Powerball talk, and the PS contest got me thinking about contests and prizes.

I haven't won much in my life, but I did win a Marine Corps Ken doll from a random drawing at a Doll/Bear show.

I also won $50 worth of book binding at a silent auction for $5. What, you don't have books that need binding?

I have won the occasional scratch off (I play maybe twice a year), never more than $4.

What have you won?

Hi,

Alot of yrs ago i promised a good friend I would go to bingo with her. I had exams all week and was so tired I begged off. She sort of screamed at me on the phone as she was and is a big bingo fan.

I dragged myself there and won $250.00. Another group of her friends also played (she didn't know they were coming) and i had to take everyone for coffee and cake. I was happy I won, but so tired I didn't appreciate it till the next day.

I have never played bingo again.

Am waiting to win the lottery.

Annette

I didn't realize powerball is at $550 m. That is nuts. That almost makes me tempted to buy a ticket. Actually not... Don't people who win end up having terrible experiences? Strange long-lost-relatives showing up? Huge drama? :errrr: I don't know...I'd rather win the modest state lotto of a couple million and stay under the radar!

I haven't won a prize that I can think of and I've entered a lot of contests! I did get the $100 gift here (which I bought an amethyst pendent with), but never an actual contest.

It was a momentous occasion -- I was in 5th grade at a poor inner city school and I won a used green eraser. I was ecstatic.

  I'm in your league, Matata. The only thing I ever won was a basket of food I didn't like at a party. Oh yeah, and maybe $2 on scratch-off lottery tickets, which is why I don't buy them -- I'm a crabby loser.

P.S. Some family friends won a MILLION bucks in Vegas at a slot machine. If I ever went there, I'd take them along, at gunpoint if necessary.

I've won a few small things. A terrible bottle of sparkling wine at a company holiday party, a few dollars in the lottery, and a flowering houseplant.

It's funny that you say that MC. My husband mentioned the Powerball jackpot this morning as we were reading the paper, and I told him that 500 million is more than I would want to win. A nice smaller jackpot with minimal/no publicity sounds perfect to me!

I have never won anything. Bad luck I guess.

My happiest win was my grade 6 cake walk - I won a cake :)

More recently I've won the 50/50 at work ($195 oh yeah) and a Kindle e-reader from my alumni magazine.

I win stuff all the time, it drives my DH crazy. The biggest thing I won was a $2k jackpot by hitting a royal flush on a 25cent video poker machine...on a cruise. That was pretty awesome. Pretty much any time I gamble (you know, $10-20) I end up doubling my money.

I also win raffles a lot, or other random drawings like that.

I've called in to radio contests and have won CDs, movie tickets, concert tickets, etc.

Not sure if this counts, but I almost always get the very closest parking spot to the store. Every time. But, on the flip side, whenever I fly I always have the very last gate. So that evens out.

Typically I NEVER win anything, BUT....
12 years ago I worked for a digital printing company, and as an incentive, each office was given two Cartier Santos watches. Guess who won one?

Lil' ole me! :wavey:

I'm still wearing it and I love that it's two tone.

As the dubious co-owner of twenty freshly drawn lottery tickets --- I am planning to start my winning streak TONIGHT BABY!!! I know I've won a few door prize type random things over the years - but nothing memorable.

I have terrible luck as well. I have probably won something small and non consequential, but definitely nothing I remember. The last thing I remember winning was a prize from Coke...it was the NCAA football game from last year so I gifted it to my boyfriend. Funny thing was that it took forever to ship so by the time he got it, football season was over  oh well!!

I listened to one particular radio station when we moved to this city, and in the course of about 12 years, I won approx $12K total, of a variety of prizes. Some of the prizes included weekend away vacations, computer, BBQ, CD's, $100 bond, diamond solitaire pendant, gold diamond bracelet, concert and movie tickets.... it was a great run!

I keep buying group lottery tickets hoping that one day... one day... I'll be part of a HUGE win with Lotto Max! This Friday's draw is $50million --- I promise I'll post all the new diamond bling I'll own, once that ticket comes thru!

I only won something once, it was many years ago and I was working at my first real job and they had a contest I cant remember why, but I ended up winning a stereo, it had a turntable and 8 track player and receiver and 2 speakers, I was so excited...lol I think I just dated myself by saying 8 track

Just a pair of baby shoes and leg warmers. Very exciting stuffs.

Yeah, it could potentially be dangerous winning the Powerball. There was a long line at the machine in the grocery store and there was a lady who kept chirping out comments to those who didn't stick their $ in and grab their tickets. She was making a huge fuss if people had any challenge at all! Scary people! lol! I decided not to buy the big ticket. No way would I want to deal with that responsibility!

Many years ago, my neighbourhood friends and I went to bingo every Thursday evening. Girls night out back then  . Heavy smoke in the room, people playing 20 cards, the whole nine yards. At one location, I won $300. At another (first time there), I won another $300. The regulars there were not gracious losers. I had also bought a ticket for a cash prize at a local hockey game, and won $250. I'm not a fan of hockey, but it was a friend who was selling so I bought one. The proceeds were delivered at 11 pm. We were ready for bed.

That was my run at three wins within weeks. That was a lot of money back then and I thought for quite awhile about what I wanted to spend it on. Of course, saving it was boring, getting a new kitchen countertop was somewhat appealing, but eventually, I divided it into four sections and bought one aunt more coloured glass bottles, another one received expensive 'knicknacks'. I bought my parents dinner and an overnight stay at The Four Seasons in Toronto and for DH and I......I don't remember

Anyway, those gifts were really appreciated and much more fun than a countertop.

Besides my recent win, about 4 years ago (just before Xmas as well!) I won a $1000 gift voucher on the radio to spend on a website called redballoonday. We spent it on a hot air balloon ride, a sunset catamaran cruise and horseriding (I think?).

They are the biggest wins that I have had.

My father, however, wins stuff all. The. Time. When he visits we go to a particular English pub that has some sort of raffle every night. Dad usually ends up winning something. Once, we got there a bit late and there were only 3 tickets left and dad bought them. 2 out of the 3 tickets won prizes.
He went into a phone shop and the salesperson talked him into buying a Samsung galaxy. He asked if he would like to enter a nationwide competition and dad filled out an entry slip on the counter. 5 days later her got a call to say he had won a $10000 Samsung home entertainment package complete with a 3D tv.

His biggest win happened when I was a kid. He likes to play favorite numbers and one particular night he thought he had won $6400. He went to collect and the lady said 'sorry sir, we cannot pay you out $64000 in cash, will you take a cheque?' That was huge money back in the early 80's.

I win things fairly often. First Little Lotto ticket I ever purchased $200, $500 at a trade show, lots of $50 prizes on scratch-off lotto tickets, a diamond pendant, a 30" flat screen tv, a few hundred dollars here and there on sports squares.

My biggest win was a $2500 trip which I won during my sales career. I was also gifted the extra week of vacation with pay. I could argue that I earned it since I had to increase my sales higher than 20 other sales reps. It was a contest though. DH & I went to the Dominican Republic for 7 days & stayed at a wonderful 5 star resort.

Dh is sending me to the store now for lotto tickets. He thinks I'm lucky so I have to go buy them :$$):

I've won just a few things:

a goldfish at a fair (when I was younger)

a DVD player (I won that at some type of holiday drive a store was having. I had volunteered to help with the drive. They were also raffling off a few of the store's items and the DVD player was one of them.)

tickets to a buffet dinner and a comedy show in the city (I don't even know how I won this because I had never been to this place before. I thought it was going to be a fun girls night out until my friends and I arrived at the club. The buffet was gross and the comedy wasn't that great. I've won these tickets twice since then but only went the first time.)

I don't know if this technically counts or not, but Andrey offered me a PS gift for my post count a while back. I still haven't picked out anything and I don't know if the offer expires after a certain amount of time.

Well I won $4 last week on the powerball, $4 several weeks ago on the same, I won a giveaway at work one year, and of course the last PS contest!

I have won 20 dollars a dozen times or so on scratch off tickets, and I am not a regular player. I won 4 tickets to an INXS concert by calling in to the radio station. And a few years ago I won a book drawing at an editor's/publishing party. Just enough wins to make me think that the big wins are out of my reach. However, I have this strange feeling that I have a lottery win in me, we shall see... =)

I won some sweet texting gloves from an Apple website and a strand of pearls from Summa Jewelers at one of the Meet the Cutters events. My friend P won a book on Diamonds that night as well and I ended up going out and buying that same book online it was so cool.

I don't really enter contests to win things all that often, now that I think of it. I entered a raffle recently to support one of my sisters' grad school cohorts and I won an awesome painting of an owl. Oh, and I won a raffle at last year's year-end faculty dinner--four rounds of golf at some local club. DH and I don't golf, so I gave the prize to my BIL.

My parents and I went to a casino on a whim several years ago. We walked in, sat down at three consecutive slot machines, and won over $2,000 combined within five minutes. We immediately cashed out and took ourselves to a nice dinner. That was crazy, we were in the casino for maybe ten minutes.

People love to give me stuff for free, though, or to give me great discounts in stores. DH used to roll his eyes whenever I got something for free, but he's realized that it saves him money so now he likes it. :cheeky:

Zip. Zilch. Nada.

I won $27 at Keno once. I think that is the extent of my winnings :knockout:

We won $500 on a scratch ticket on our anniversary a few years ago. It was pretty exciting for us.

Nope! I wish!

Yes. I won my husband's heart back in 2009. Best thing that ever happened to me. ;))

Our own Missdebby had a contest on her FB artwork page - and I won one of her prints! It arrived last week and is just so beautiful. Other than him, I answered a question on the radio once about what the Dow Jones is (not many regular Aussies are up to date on Wall Street matters) and got a $150 gift certificate to a surf shop. And my table won our rescue organization's first quiz night (perhaps the greatest intellectual achievement of my life  ). And, I think I remember winning a beanie baby in a raffle when I was about 12. A lifetime of winning, right here.

Blue is definitely the BEST of the lot though!
