I've found them to be a mixed bag. We've had some really super ones, the occasional arrogant one, and some duds. But the weirdest was when one of them went missing!

She was last seen at about 10.30 am. At about 12.30, we realized that she was gone. We searched the roof deck and tried to call her. No luck. We were at a loss, and then at 5.30 p, she comes in, all flushed and looking harried. She said that she had been asleep on the roof deck, which wasn't true as we'd looked for her there. The same intern used to fall asleep in meetings.

We never found out what was going on with her, but the Case of the Missing Intern is still referred to today. We all said that we really hoped she was getting some fantastic action, and not that something was wrong in her life.

The ones that turned out to be duds were those who, having secured the internship out of a few hundred applicants, then didn't try at all. I find that very puzzling. Interns usually love it when they secure an internship, but we've had some really unenthusiastic ones. It's a well-known company and the internships are paid, and competitive. Why wouldn't they put their best foot forward? Headscratcher.

Oh my goodness we had an EIT (engineer in training) at work quite a few years ago. He was not motivated at all and didn't want to engage or try to learn much. We all thought he was a dud. LOL in Dec, I was asked to go back to work part time to help out after retiring and he's the engineer over the section! He does seem to have learned more but still not a ball of fire.
