I am trying to find a nice vacation spot for our family this year. I wanted to go to North Carolina and rent a beach house. My husband suggested Sarasota because they went there as kids. While it sounds nice, it seems like maybe the only beachfront rentals they have are condos or bungalows. The bungalows are a little small and I don''t like the idea of some condo where I have to walk a long way and up a bunch of stairs to get to the beach. I want to be able to open my door and walk out onto the beach. I have looked and looked online at Sarasota area rentals and I can''t find anything like that. I know in Myrtle BEach, they wouldn''t have beach houses. The area is too commercialized with high rises. Is Sarasota the same way? Is it too hot to go there in June?

Is there anywhere else you can suggest for a family with two kids, ages 2 and 4?

have you thought about sanibel island?

I love sarasota. some of the cleanest/whitest beaches i''ve seen anywhere. i was visited family in orlando and we just went over for the day so i''m not sure what types of things there is to *do* there other than play on the beach with the kids. Of course, since it''s within driving distance of Disney you could always make your way into orlando for a day or too and do some of the activivies there.

HI:

One of my favorite vacay spots--we''ve stayed in Longboat Key more than once and have never been disappointed. Wonderful white sand beaches......easy to get around, great shopping

Maybe Rich will see this and can give his input? It''s his stompin'' ground!

Well, while I would love to go to Sarasota someday, I had to send the deposit on the NC beach house by Monday or lose it so we decided to go ahead with it. For this year, we wanted to drive and Florida is too long of a drive with a 2 and a 4 year old. I thought of the Disney thing but we had planned on going to Disney next year anyway. I mentioned going to Sarasota then and DH wasn''t too excited about doing the two together. But maybe he will come around by next year.

We are going to take a two night stop over in Nashville. I have wanted to go there but it is one place I have never been. Isn''t that around your neck of the woods, Mrs. Salvo?

Thanks! We were probaby only going to be there one or two nights at most. We were kind of thinking it might be fun to stay in the hotel at the Grand ole Opry.

We went to Nashville several times when I was younger for my dad's pharmacy conventions and always stayed at the Opryland Hotel... it was such a fun place! All the indoor gardens and waterfalls with winding little paths to walk through... as a child, it was just the coolest thing. Felt like being in a rainforest or something. I remember enjoying the amusement park in Nashville as well, but this was all at least 15-20 years ago, so I'm sure things have changed since then! I just know it was always one of our favorite trips when my brothers and I were younger, largely because of how neat the hotel was. Hopefully it's still the same!

you and the kids would enjoy the Opry Hotel and it''s a fun place to stay for sure. It''s east of town but not too far a drive if you wanted to head downtown for sightseeing or whatever. there is also a place called the Adventure Science Center which is a great hands on place for kids you guys might want to check out.
