Has Omicron changed your Christmas Plans?

I am so sorry and I hope you feel all better soon. Rest and recover well. I hope you can see your family next weekend.

Thank you!

Our plans went down the tubes on Tuesday when I started feeling under the weather. I’m 3 days in with a fever running as high as 103. Some respiratory symptoms, but primarily fever and body aches,

I’m really disappointed as this would have been our first Christmas in our new home. But no way am interested in passing this along to anyone else.

For what it’s worth… I am vaccinated, my husband is not. He is also feeling under the weather but his symptoms started a day earlier and are much milder. He does not have a fever, just a sniffle. Go figure!

So we will spend the next week together resting, staying hydrated and hoping that we can see our adult children the following weekend

It could be flu A

My daughter was negative with a self-administered antigen rapid test (I think it was day 5 post exposure) a few hours before she started experiencing COVID symptoms.

She took a nap the afternoon after her negative test and woke up sick with a sore throat. The next day she was positive by PCR. I am sure the rapid tests help, but they only catch about 60% of non-symptomatic or pre-symptomatic infections.

She and her s/o are off quarantine and better. We will all get together tomorrow for dinner with my Mom.

It’s like a pregnancy test though: it’s not going to be positive until there is enough to turn it positive.

A doc on med Twitter said you are supposed to test daily for up to 10 days after an exposure, though she admitted that was unrealistic. But that is the “what you should do in an ideal world…”

When I was waiting it out, I tried the antigen at home twice, and on day 10 had a negative PCR. Real life is so messy. I am glad I work from home. I could just push through without time off.

Merry Christmas….I tested my mom, older son, and us yesterday and today. I made my son wait outside while the test was processing. He swabbed his own nose in the open garage. He then handed me the swab while I did the test. He waited in his car for fifteen minutes. It was negative. He was getting sweaty and chills all day. He said he was cold..but then he started sweating..This went on all day..When it was time to eat he said he wasn’t hungry again..His face was really perspiring..He decided to go home with his food. We were relieved.. I’m pretty nervous that he could have Covid even though the tests he took yesterday and today were negative.
A bunch of people I know had to cancel their Christmas plans because either their son, daughter, cousin, etc. tested positive. People had to turn around after driving halfway to Ohio. Other people had to cancel flights..My DIL’s friend just tested positive. It’s scary.

Earlier I heard from some friends that they met with a small group and one of them was not feeling well but came anyway.
Later that day that person tested positive for covid and did not tell anyone that was there.
She told her sister who thankfully got the word out.
There were a lot of quickly changed Christmas plans.
So far there have not been any more positives among the ones there but its to early to say they are safe.
They followed the current guidelines for their province at the meeting.

That is a huge problem with home testing if the person wont contact people then no one knows.

We changed our plans and saw my parents. All of us fully masked the entire visit. Just the two of us and my parents. We celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. It was a lovely day.

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday and wishing you a very happy and healthy 2022. May the pandemic be behind us soon.

@missy your outfit is so cute! Love seeing people with style and a sense of humor.
Such a lovely couple!

Apart from that, helloooo omicron! My kid hung out with someone who tested positive and showed symptoms a few days after their meetup. We are triple vaccinated and not terribly concerned but I do have some health issues that make me want to be extra careful. Isolation and observation will be our thing for the next few days.
