Wedding Has anyone bought a wedding dress on Craigslist?

I''ve tried on a dress I like, but the bridal shops have such an incredible markup, and I don''t want to pay it. Budget is also an issue for me. I''ve found the exact same dress, same color, size, unaltered, on Craigslist, for about 1/3 the bridal shop price. I can get it altered here in L.A.

But I''m cautious. What if the seller misrepresents the condition of the dress? What if it never arrives?

Has anyone ever bought a gown, or known anyone who has bought a gown, off Craigslist?

I buy things off of Craigslist all the time, but only locally. I would have bought a dress off of CL, if I had found one, but again, only if it was locally.

What recourse do you have if the seller doesn''t send it? Or, misrepresents the condition of the dress? I assume you''d send her a check and then wait for the dress to arrive?

Maybe you can convince her to list it on eBay, so that you''d at least have the eBay and Paypal buyer protections, although I''m not sure either provides 100% protection. If the dress never arrives though, at least you''d have some recourse.

I have gotten many things off of craigslist and they''ve all been completely legit....

Is there anyway the seller would agree to go through paypal? That way there''s a paper trail. Also make sure she sends the dress w/ delivery confirmation. I would do it as long as it went through paypal.
