TP, I'm so thrilled to see how happy you look in your pictures! So glad that you have such lovely photographs to look back on and remember all the good that happened over the course of your wedding events!

Thanks! I was so very happy we made it to the day and despite everything it was wonderful!

Still waiting on the pictures my grandfather took. He promised I could have them if we made it for Thanksgiving! (of course we'll go!)

Thanks!

One of my few regrets is that I didn't take the time to make my cascading orchid bouquet, but I love the pictures we have so much that I really just don't care!

Yeah! We are still in the same area. Not going to move. We have jobs and all our family and friends here.

Kids! Ya we want only one kid. Not now though. Maybe two more years! I don't want to wait too long though! Hubby wants to travel to Europe and Asia first before we have a baby. My mom has been telling me to have a baby. I had a serious talk with her. I told her we have plans, just don't rush us. I get stressed out before cuz little baby related things will make her wants to "hint". Sigh. It's annoying. I had to talk to her cuz I don't want her to expect we are ready any second.

Wow! With a teen in your house, how can you guys get some quality time together? Poor ya! I don't think I can do that! I am proud of you! :appl:

You'll have to come down for a GTG! We've had a couple in Bellevue recently. Might have to try for one up a bit further north (I don't have a passport though...).

Don't rush on the kids! I know lots of ladies here have kids and do still travel and stuff but it is really different with a kid. I skipped the baby/toddler part so can't say much about that. We've done camping just the two of us in past plus a couple of nights at B&B or the winery and it was VERY different than having "A" along with us. Still nice, but not so much relaxing and following our own relaxed pace.

Quality time.....
Yeah...
Not for the last 14 months.
I've got to get up early to get her breakfast (dealing with anorexia so can't trust her to do breakfast) before school. I go to school and get home usually just in time for her to get home. Then homework & dinner. By the time we make it to bed we're stressed (often due to her not eating dinner or taking 10 hours to do homework that should have taken an hour to complete). Her room is right across the hall from ours so that was a bit hard to adjust to at first too. I have to get up early on Sundays to get her ready for her mother to pick her up (breakfast again and reminders to finish up the last bits of homework) and then I don't feel like climbing back into bed after "visiting" with her mother for an hour or more.
We do get about 6 hours alone on Sundays (but I'm not feeling at all relaxed or snuggly after "visiting").
She has teen weekends about 3 times per year where we get two nights alone. One in February this year for 5 days :appl:
The last few months have been very tough as we've had all of her stuff to deal with plus my exams AND poor DH has been out of work on disability so I've been hauling him to the dr lots (3-6 appointments every week!).
I'm hoping DH will be feeling better (he is getting better!) soon. We should have recovered financially from his unpaid time off work in the next 6 weeks.
My hope is that we can make it to the winery for a few days in February since they'll be doing a special Valentine's Day thing and it is just before my b-day. "A" will be spending 5 days in Disneyland with her teen group so it would just mean boarding the dogs and getting our neighbor's kid to stay in the house with the cats.

TooPatient: actually we were in Seattle for a day on my bday back in September. Bought some stuff. It was fun. Probably won't be going to the states anytime soon. We used to go every once in awhile to shop. You guys always have cheaper stuff than here in Canada. Now, We just buy online and have them ship to Point Roberts,WA. Heard of that place? It's kinda cool. Lots of Canadian just have items ship there and we just cross the border to pick up. Interesting place. It's super small and it isn't connected to the states at all...

Anyways... What's wrong with your hubby? Hope he is ok!

It seems like you are a good mom to the teenager! Good for you. I don't think I can do that!

I see lots of ppl are having kids. It makes me want one... Yet I know I am not quite ready... Do you know what I mean?

I've heard of the place but never been. Hope to visit there some day!

DH has worked in computer engineering for decades. It seems to be a combination of that and possibly an accident when he was 15 or so. Basically, the curve in his neck went away (instead of being C shaped it was straight) then then vertebrae (?) started settling down on each other. This carried into his back and his spine started to get a sort of S shape (instead of straight) to compensate. Anyway... whatever the exact cause and order of things was, nerves are being impinged and causing all sorts of trouble. He had to leave work early due to pain a couple of times in the last week he was at work in July and then it got super bad and he could barely even sit up. We went to the general practitioner, the chiropractor who corrected my back problem, two SOMA massage therapists, and a nurse practitioner (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory injections). Ongoing care with them. Added in a spinal specialist. 5 MRIs, 2 sets of x-rays, 2 sets of blood work, multiple anti-inflammatory pills plus muscle-spasm pills. Seeing a neurologist in a few weeks.

We pay for good (we thought :nono: ) disability insurance through his employer but they denied his claim. The doctors don't want him working. He still can't drive. Still has trouble sitting/standing. There is some risk of permanent paralysis by working (MRIs showed some stuff). But they denied so he got no pay from July until just this last Friday. Since I quit my job to be in school full time (and couldn't make enough to pay the mortgage even full time at anything I could get hired to do without completing my degree), his is our only income. So he's back to work. Working from home for the next couple of weeks at least. His manager is being great (despite HR being pains :nono: ) and we're purchasing stuff out of our own pockets so he can return with as much comfort as possible.

He is getting better. It has been slow going and there was lots of scary stuff. Our nerves really do work in odd ways!

This is a BIG part of the changes we made to the wedding in the couple of months leading up to it. We were in for him to do (another) MRI just the day before our wedding! I had found him on the floor -- he'd fallen -- several times in the last couple of days before the wedding. He couldn't make it up stairs. He couldn't even reliably stay standing. You can see it in his face as the day of pictures progresses. It was difficult for him to be up that much.

I am so glad the muscle jerkiness is calming down a bit. One of the reasons for the neurologist is because a lot of what he's been going through is early indicators (according to the spine specialist) of some neurological diseases. The chiropractor is confident it is just structural and the improvement seems to support that. He'll still see the neurologist to be safe, but we're both pretty sure it is just a precaution at this point.

You'll make an amazing mom to a teenager when the time comes! I do have to say that most people have 13 years to prepare for life with a teenager.... I got three days :-o It has been crazy, but I do the best I can. She's been through a lot and I remind myself of that every time she does something super inappropriate. She didn't learn the stuff she should have so a lot of what she does comes from simply not knowing. Of course a lot comes from her mother training her to use manipulation to get what she wants.... We've been teaching her (by showing her) that working hard (doing homework) means she gets good grades, more time to watch movies, the ability to miss a day of school for a 3-day teen weekend and all the other good stuff in life. She gets lots more good stuff by doing what she should and being honest than she does when she tries to lie and manipulate.

I do understand what you mean about wanting a kid but also knowing you're not ready. We've been talking about wanting a baby but we both know that right now is not the time. I think being honest with yourselves is the most responsible thing you can do!

Nah! You don't need to visit point Roberts. You have to enter Canada before you can enter point Roberts. You can literally drive around the whole place for 10 min. The place only has a couple of gas station, one grocery store, a beach, and lots of postal services for Canadian to pick up packages.

Wow! Poor DH. I hope he will get better soon. I am sure you are a good wife and a good mom. What are you taking in school? When will you graduate? It must be tough. Nowadays, one income is never enough. Everything is getting more and more expensive. Let's talk about happy things.

Thanksgiving soon for you guys! What are you guys doing? Gonna make turkey? :appl:

It sounds small!

Let's see... currently taking 4th quarter calculus and "fundamentals of music". Calculus is a lot of work but the music thing is super easy. It is aimed at people who have never had any music training at all (so can't read music at all, no idea of counting, chords, etc) so I'm able to finish a couple of weeks of homework in an hour or so.
Oh.... And yoga! I never thought I'd do yoga but my chiropractor suggested it would be good for my back.

Next quarter starts in January and will be insane. 18 credit hours! (12 is full time)
Differential equations, linear algebra, statics, and engineering graphics.

That just leaves me with dynamics, thermodynamics, electrical circuits, and mechanics of materials in spring quarter.

I should be finished with both of my transfer degrees in June. I'll be applying for graduation in the next few weeks!
My goal is to do an upper division transfer into the aeronautical engineering department starting fall quarter. Since I'm graduating and transferring with way more than the required minimum, I hope to be able to complete both of my bachelor's degrees within 1 1/2 to 2 years. After that I will probably only do one Master's degree. We're talking about maybe trying for a baby near the end of my bachelor's degrees and then I can stay home and do my Master's online.

Thanksgiving is next week!
We'll go to my grandparents' house on Thursday and bring food to share. My mom, aunt, and myself have been coordinating the last couple of years so that we bring all of the food and my grandparents don't have to cook. My grandma's b-day is actually on Thanksgiving this year!
I'll be cooking a full turkey dinner at home on Friday. I'm exhausted but I LOVE turkey so have taken to doing a full dinner at home the day after so we have lots of leftovers to enjoy. I may also cook 6 or 8 or 10 other turkeys over the next couple of months

You had your Thanksgiving already? Canada does earlier than we do right? I'm always confusing holidays!

HIHI!!! :wavey:

I just made myself a decaf eggnog latte. YUMMY! I'm nice and warm in my pj and hugging my stuffed monkey and bear. (seriously, I still have a thing for stuffy) Hubby always make fun of me and said I'm still a kid. WHATEVER!

Our Thanksgiving was back in mid October. Didn't do much. Hubby got a day off which is good. I didn't. I still had to teach, but I chose to teach that day and I like it. I'm teaching at home anyways. :wink2: It's not like I have to drag myself out of the house.

It seems like you're gonna have a big gathering on Thanksgiving! That's nice. Is A going to be there too? Good luck with the turkey. I'm sure it will be AWESOME! Please save me some, ok? I'll make a Turkey sandwich out of it. :naughty: I'm actually looking forward to the Black Friday sale. I know Costco has $100 off a 10.1" Samsung tablet during that time. After discount, it will be less than $300. That's cheap! I'm interesting in getting a new tablet. I totally hate the ipad 1st generation. It's so slow (maybe cuz it's the 1st gen) and doesn't support flash. Sigh... I have a feeling that deal doesn't apply to Costco Canada. Oh well. It's not like I'm in a hurry for one.

Hey! It seems like we might start to have a baby at around the same time. in a year or 2, right? That would be so fun! We can talk about our pregnancy. :appl:

Anyways, I'm looking forward to this Friday. Hubby is taking a day off. We are going out for lunch!!! YEAH!!!

Sorry this post is so random. I'm quite a random person. It's all good!

I love random!

Shhh..... I've never actually had eggnog before! I keep hearing it is amazing in a latte.... may have to get some and try that!

There is a whole thread over in Hangout about those of us who still have (me!) or remember our loved stuffed animals. I don't think I ever had a stuffed monkey though! My brother did and it was cute

Quiet Thanksgiving with your DH home sounds wonderful! Even with teaching. Of course I love music and enjoy teaching stuff so that sounds fun anyway!

Probably a very small Thanksgiving gathering this year. My grandparents, the three of us (A's mom doesn't want to spend the day with her so she'll be with us again this year), my aunt + 2 kids, and probably my mom. My aunt's husband doesn't usually come with her (he prefers to stay home with his own TV  ) and my mom's ex-husband has never showed up for family dinners. One of my uncles died last summer and the other died just over a month ago so my other cousins aren't likely to be there.

Oh --- My mom got a divorce (finally!), lost her house to foreclosure (due to said ex), then decided to move in with her ex... in his parents' house living with his parents sleeping in his childhood room... Yeah. I've never liked this man so there is a fair amount of friction between her and me right now as she was mad we didn't invite him to the wedding. So she decided not to come

Eh. Life goes on!

My grandfather has more pictures from our wedding plus more from dinner & the wine tasting :appl:
I'm super excited to see them!

I promised DH that I'd cook a full turkey dinner at home on Friday. My family tries hard but they tend to favor stuffing out of a box, cranberries out of a can, "pumpkin pie filling" from a can, and all that sort of stuff. I do everything from scratch all the way down to homemade turkey stock, homemade bread for the stuffing, and herbs from our garden. The holiday is about being with family. You may be having a disagreement with someone or you may have different ideas on the food, but you still come together as a family.
Besides.... It is the only day of the year I get to eat Grandma's "pistachio pudding" (I've tried to explain how good it is to DH, but he's convinced it isn't actually an edible substance  ) One package of pistachio pudding mix, one big tub of Cool Whip, one can of fruit, topped with marshmallows :lickout:

The Samsung tablets are great! DH has been using one for a couple of years and really enjoys it.
I've been using the Surface and really like it too.

Right about a year or two to start trying! That would be so fun to chat about together! I don't have anyone IRL who is likely to be having kids at that time so I'll be around here lots. I've been lurking over in the Family section for a few years. There is so much to think about with this!

Lunch with your DH will be great! I love it when that happens! Any special occasion or a just because?

ETA:
"A" will be with us for Thanksgiving again this year. The official court paperwork says she should be visiting her mom, but I talked to her and she flat out said that she doesn't have any plans and would rather "A" not be with her that day. They see each other once a week for 6-8 hours but that is pretty much it. They seem to get bored with each other pretty quickly. The mom wants a baby/toddler to play with and entertain. "A" wants to be a teenager and be treated like a normal person.

Beezy -- Come on over to the Newlyweds section! We're going to bring it back to life! (I think it is a great place for all of us past the wedding but not ready for family/baby talk yet!)
