I want to wish RongLing and Andy a very happy wedding day today. RongLing is originally from China and today, August 8, 2008 or 8/08/08, is considered a lucky day to be married in her culture. Please join me in wishing them a long, happy life together. They live near me in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

I do not know how to add emoticons to my posting. Can anyone add a wedding bouquet and a cake to this thread for me?

Here is a cake for the happy couple. I do not know what their cake looked like in reality.

Congratulations to Rongling and Andy!

Yes, 8 is a very auspicious number in the Chinese Culture. That's why the Beijing Olympics ceremony opens on 08-08-2008 at 8:08pm!

Thank you, simplysplendid; that piece of information passed me by and it is very interesting. I will try to remember it by storing it beside the First World War ending on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

No worries Debbie...

I forgot to mention why 8 is auspicious.. it is because the number 8 sounds like the pronunciation of "prosperity" in chinese. "8" is pronounced as "ba" and "prosperity" is pronounced as "fa" (sounds like "far" when you say "far, far away" slowly).

Congrats!!!!

It is a very lucky day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Much love and happiness in your new lives together.
