To all US PS members, just wanted to wish you all a very happy 4th July weekend. What are you all doing? Anyway, have a great time with friends and family and may your sparklies shine brightly in the lovely sunshine. Bet it will rain here, it has most of the week

Have fun!

Going to a former coworker''s barbecue...see some fireworks...typical July 4th itinerary...but I am sooooooooo looking forward to it!!

Happy "independence day" everyone!

This will be the first July 4th since 1992 that we are NOT having a July 4th party.

We normally had a swim party, BBQ, and fireworks viewing since we are high
on a ridgetop and can see aerial firework shows from 5 surrounding communities.
Sometimes we had more than 50 people and their kids over, lots of waterfights
in the pool, adults in the spa, food, food and more food, etc.

It just got to be too much work. Even the clean-up took an entire day,
food crumbs everywhere, half-drank soda cans, beer bottles etc. I''m tired
of cleaning up after my sloppy friends.

So this year, it will be just websailor and I viewing the fireworks alone.

And good for you...it is a pain cleaning up after a party!!! You guys should relax and enjoy it alone!

My Sat/Sun weekend plans include having a nervous breakdown!

BUT, aside from that, on the fourth, we're taking the kids to a waterfront park where we're going to watch fireworks. We'll also be picking up a few fun little things, like sparklers, for the boys. I told my son that sparklers are magic wands (like Harry Potter's) and now he's excited to cast some spells. lol (we play harry potter out in the yard all the time. . . my kids LOVE him ;)

I will be in Nantucket and will be celebrating the fourth with my sister in law and my brother in law and their new baby!!!!

all you can eat pancakes and eggs breakfast at the firehouse then watch the hometown old fashioned parade which includes lumberjacks, marching celts, horses, kids on bicyles, dogs with scarves, old restored cars and motorcycles, and more.....it it at this event that the meaning of the 4th of july causes my heart to swell.

i''m in the same situation, except we go to the park...i had to buy all the food, marinate the meats, bring all the drinks and everything to the park, after the picnic, clean all the ice chest, etc . imagine preparing for 100+ people every year since 1982. i finally gave up 4 years ago.the pass few yrs we been going to friends house for BBQ.

Aaah, nothing wrong with that Cflutist. I can only imagine how beautiful it is viewing the fireworks from your patio.

We are going to spend the weekend packing and tearing the house apart getting ready for the big move to California in 3 weeks!

We are going to take a break and go to a former coworkers barbeque. I am looking forward to bbq & cold beer!

who was the first person to sign the declaration of independence ?

Heading to Chicago, my hometown, where I and some hundreds of my relatives will gather for a reunion; been doing this every 5 years now since I can remember, though this is the first time for the 4th in decades (usually it had been Labor Day weekend); then to spend a week there showing my children the city.

Best wishes,

The correct answer is John Hancock and that is where the phrase "put your John Hancock on the dotted line" or "I just need your John Hancock" comes from.

If my memory is correct, he also made his signature LARGE and legible, so everyone could see.

What''s my prize?

Happy upcoming 4th everyone...!!

Greg is playing in a 4th of July concert in a nearby town..so we go out for a lunch picnic under the trees with a bunch of friends and my family to see that....and then after our pals are coming over to our place for a BBQ...we can see the downtown fireworks from our house and/or the park behind our house. Low-key and fun...we are glad to be home after our long driving trip!

Dh and I are having my mother, his mother, his stepfather and another friend over to our place for some BBQ, fruit salad, baked beans and a few cold beers. Then we are off to town to see a firework show. I hope it doesn''t rain! We are in a drought here in Illinois, haven''t seen any measureable rain for weeks, suddenly they say it''s supposed to rain on the 4th

We''ll see...

Regular Guy: what part of Chicago are you visiting? Chicago native here, so I''m curious! Have a blast at the taste of Chicago if you go by Grant Park.

Happy 4th of July Everyone!!!!

Our Holiday is pretty relaxed. We started last night with some fireworks. Our subdivison is out in the country by a lake, and a lot of people who live around the lake were shooting them off. We had some that hubby bought accross the state line in Indiana last week, so we contributed our fair share to the mix. We did save a few for tonight after my hubby gets home from work.

This morning my little boy, who is six, woke us all up by playing "Yankee Doodle" on the electric keyboard...lol. Too cute. This afternoon, after my hubby goes to work, my parents are coming over and we are taking the kids to our favorite restuarant, Texas Roadhouse, for some steak and BBQ ribs. Later on tonight, we''ll head out to see the Champaign Freedom Celebration. They hold the fireworks at the Football stadium on the UofI campus, but a few years ago we found a great place to watch, away from the crowds and congestion of the stadium. A few blocks from campus is a Steak and Shake. We are such geeks, but we go park in the parking lot of S&S, pull out our lawn chairs with the rest of the geeks, order up some peach shakes and skinny fries and watch the fireworks from there. It''s become kind of a tradition for us over the past handful of years. When we get home, we''ll have more fireworks down by the lake and the kids will light their sparklers. I''m just hoping it won''t rain...there''s a 50% chance of thunderstorms in Central Illinois for this afternoon and this evening.

We are having from friends over and letting fireworks off in the yard. Just to remember this wonderful day!

Awesome John!!!

Looks like it will be one heck of a good time with that ''outdoor kitchen'' you''ve got!! My husband would be so jealous of you! Have a great holiday

IE - Well let me send the handyman guys right over to him. I'm all for grill proliferation!

Happy holiday to you too.

Sounds like you all had a great time! Yes, I am just drying off after being caught in another deluge of good old traditional british rain. JQ - I will fondly think of you scrubbing your lovely new grill till it sparkles.

I think you should start a new thread on JQ''s marinades, dressings etc. I''m sure you must have lots of secret recipes to use with your lovely new setup. How about when your recipes zoom into the fame stratosphere, and your wealth rivals Paul Newmans, buying all us lovely ladies the diamond of our choice?
