October, I can''t remember, but are you in the DC area? The reason that I ask is because I went through a slew of bad hairdressers lately, but I finally found one that I love, and I have very similar hair to you, so if you are in DC, I wanted to pass along the info.

I go to Salon Nordine in Reston, VA, and see Linda, and she fixed some really bad cut & color that I had done at another salon. I highly recommend her.

When I was working, I used to go to Andre Chreky in DC which is a great salon but pricey. Still, I really recommend them as well.

Nope - I''m in Toronto, Canada. I have the hardest time with hair dressers and it is annoyince since I probably have the easiest hair to cut (long, one length, a few layers around the face). Ugh.

Pics will come this evening probably :-)

october, i HIGHLY recommend the FIORIO salon on cumberland avenue in yorkville. i''ve always had a wonderful experience there and can give you the name of the stylist i''ve been going to for 7 yrs if you''d like. would love to see pics of the new haircut!

Thanks sbde - I will definitely take the recommendation!! This was done at Civello in Rosedale.

Okay so here are a few pics.

First off, sorry about the messiness - I just came back from a run.

Here is a picture of it:

Here is what it actually looks like long (that first pic was just showing the layers and what I''d look like with short-ish hair I guess?)

Gahh I look terrible in these pics! Sorry - I was going to blur my face but you have all seen it probably so I figured it wasn''t worth the time. Now I see how bad I looked post-run and I''m rethinking my decision!!

So here is the problem. When it is down, I can make the layers look okay (hide the problem) but when I put my ''bangs'' back like I like to, you can see that one side still has a chunk of short hair while the other side is long (i.e. all the short bits were back).

It''s like she cut the layers too blunt and too deep on the one side.

I''m going to call the salon tomorrow to go back in. I don''t think there is much they can do without going shorter on the other side, but maybe I can get my money back? Just seems like a pretty big error (i.e. not even on both sides by about 6 inches) on a pretty simple cut.

Anyhoo - rough pictures but I wanted to show you since you were all so helpful with the advice!

I''m not one to talk about hairdressers/haircuts since I got mine cut last week in Chinatown ($10 including tip (!), but I wear an OR hat all day every day at work and my hair is unruly by nature, so I can''t see spending $80 on a haircut) by some guy who barely spoke English. Probably I''m a bit too much of a bargain-hunter :)

But I actually like your hair best in the shot where you were showing how it''d look shorter. I think the shoulder-length layers really frame your face and look super-stylish, while still being long enough to pull back and be versatile. With a hot summer coming up, I''d be tempted to get them to cut it that length when you go in for them to fix things! It''ll always grow back if you don''t love it.

Thanks Kate - that thought definitely crossed my mind, but if I were to cut it short I''d want a Gwyeneth Paltrow type long bob - all one length almost. I feel like the short bits are too short/wispy for what I''d like. Sigh.

You can see what they did though eh? Ugh.

I really like the first one where it looks short. I can kind of see what you''re saying about how it is kind of blunt and the layers don''t flow into the rest of your longer pieces. Are you going back to the same person? Maybe have someone else get your current layers to work into your longer hair...although I think the short looks adorable on you!

+1

you look great with short hair! right now the short layers aren''t flowing into the longer ones, so if nothing else i''d go back to get that fixed.

btw the stylist i go to is Alison - if you''re feeling adventurous definitely go to her, i PROMISE she will do a fab job. i''ve moved to a diff country but still go to her to get my hair cut haha..

I have to say that I do like the layers, and I can''t really notice how it''s uneven (I know that you can notice it, but I don''t think that most people will). I also like your long hair though - it''s beautiful! I''m just a long hair fan though. You would look good if you cut it shorter as well - it would also suit the shape of your face.

Overall, it looks like a good haircut - I do like the layers around your face.

Ugh...I can completely see how she messed it up for you. She left some layers suuuuuper long then cut some choppy face framing pieces but didn''t tie the whole thing together. Been there done that. At least it''s long enough that you can hide it until you can get it fixed.

On the other hand I think your hair would look FAB with the blunt bob...

And if you can get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it I bet they can blend the super short pieces in so it''ll even look fine now.

I know - it is super annoying. I''ve put a call into the salon so we''ll see what they say. I''m still not ready for the bob yet - maybe next time!!

Hi octoberbride

I'm a little late to this thread, but just wanted to say that I'm in the same place that you were just before your cut. My hair has gotten really long and I'm toying with the idea of a change. It would be a burk-esque change.

I'm sorry that your hair turned out a little uneven, but for what it's worth, you look fantastic with both long and shorter hair! seriously. especially if that is what you look like after a run!

I'll try to post what I'm thinking about - my appointment is in june. time to ponder and change my mind many times
