Every quarter when I get The Loupe I see the ad for the GIA Alumni Association. Although I have my Gemologist Diploma (GIA) I don't work in the industry so am wondering what benefits I would get by joining for $50?
Editted to say: hubby websailor grew up in Massapequa and then Amityville. (yes, the horror house was across the canal and down about 3 blocks from where he lived). We will definitely drop by to say hi when we are back in your neck of the woods.
I encourage you to have a lot of fun with the position.
One small request though; how about you getting all of your associates to produce good electronic pictures of what they consider to be their best (or best couple) pieces of jewelry and post them, and their specs, on a website so all of us can drool over them...
Um, Corey..is that a Bouvier des Flanders? or a Russian black terrier? I love bouviers- especially that ''hop'' they do from all four legs straight up in the air...
Very nice! I love the bouviers, such loveable dogs. My friend has 2 she got froma a rescue group- giant adorable lugs, they just want to be near her and lean on her. Which is a sight, as my friend is about 4'11" and 90 pounds soaking wet!
Rhino- sorry for hijaking....again, congratulations, and if you have any celebratory events with doorprizes, I am sure you would have a herd o'people rushing in to visit!
PQ: If I ever start handing out baubles you''ll be the first.
Mara: I didn''t realize you had a doggie site! Just visited it ... very cool.
Cflutist: When or if you do join the Alumni, the individual local chapters organize excellent opportunities that are generally for the benefit of the local jewelers & their staff covering a number of topics. I have already made suggestions for topics that are of interest to a broader audience within the industry and to also cover topics that are more contemporary, ie. things that are affecting today''s local jewlers like the Internet and the new issues regarding diamond cut grading. You may want to give your local chapter a buzz and see what they have planned this year. These meetings are generally held in nice restaurants too!
It may be of interest to you. If you''re up in this neck of the woods it would be GREAT to meet you face to face! We''ll do lunch.
CGN: My dad was also an Elk for many many years. That was one of his primary hangouts when playing handball.
Perry: Good idea with the jeweler pieces. At one time we were active on Ebay and had posted and sold pieces there. My younger sister just started up our account again but we will not only be posting jewelry items there but we will also be starting a jewelry section on our website as well.
Iceman: WHAT''S UP COREY!!! Good to cya around man. Yep ... that''s my Mojo. One of our 2 pugs. Below is a shot of both Mojo and Wilbur. Wilbur is a year younger and he''s the pup the left, Mojo on the right.
Jen: No sweat about the hijack. The subject of dog''s are always welcome.
Thanks again ya''ll. I really appreciate the support of my PS family.
The dog is like velcro to me. Never leaves my side. When I leave it sits at the door and howls.
When I come up the steps you need to be on one side. The dog hits ever 4th step and when bounding to the next its actually airborne !
My wife wanted the dog and the dog hates her ? Its was eaither going to be two small dogs or one big one. Being out in the country with the coyotes we thought a bigger dog would work better.
Any way, congrats again your a good person to have on their board.
Right now we are fighting with our youngest son. He wants out of Military College and wants to be over in the Middle east ?
Congratulations, Jonathan. Since I thought that the link to your website was going to have information on this appointment, I visited your website. I hadn''t been there in years. I like it! Now I know where to go if I don''t have the foggiest idea what some cut under discussion looks like!
Have you ever been to any of the Alumi meetings in NYC at all? They mostly seem to be out of the Grammercy Arts Club, and I have been to the last two. I would love to know if you go to any of them, to put a face to the illustrious name!
Plus, the NYC chapter has all female officers, so getting the LI Vp over there would probably shake things up a bit!
To show up to the LI alum meetings, do you have to be in the LI area or can students sneak their way into the lectures too?
