My venue is a double edged sword b/c we can bring in our own catering. Well, shopping for a caterer is soooooo hard b/c its not like comparing apples to apples as so many offer so many different things. Anyway, I thought I FINALLY found one I liked. She knew by budget parameters and seemed excited to work with me. A few days later she emailed me and said, "good news, I go the numbers to work". I asked her for an itemized breakdown of what it included. Well, several days passed and I asked again. She said she''s been trying to make the numbers gel. She said, "oh, no when I said linen, I did not mean chair covers, you have to get those on your own" and oh, I forgot to include a bartender, add $XX. Well now, she said she must have left an item off the initial figure she gave me b/c she can''t get it to that number again and now its over$700 more than the initial figure.
It may not seem like alot in the overall scheme of things, but we are on a budget and with the economy the way it is, we have to watch every penny. and I asked her if we would change the menu to something to make it work. She said she needs to make money too and the economy is hurting her and that people have lower budgets, but want the same productions and her costs are going up...
grrr...I feel like I have to start by caterer search all over again. I just feel like she found a bride for the same day with a bigger budget or she realized that what she initially proposed was not a good quote and now she is trying to dig herself out.
