Hello PS members. My name is Matthew and I recently came across this site and am excited to have found it as I believe it is exactly the type of thing I need.
I know very little about jewelry and this site seems like a great place to get some much needed information in this subject. An opportunity has arisen for me to get involved in the jewelry business and though I really want to take advantage of this opportunity, I am well outside my element. I am a guy and in my mid-20''s so, as you may expect to be the norm, jewelry and I have not had a familiarity with each other. The plan is to change that and hopefully use this site as a great resource in working towards my goal of becoming well versed in diamonds, gemstones, jewelry design, and just about every other topic related to jewelry that I am little better than clueless about right now.
I have made my living far from jewelry up until this point, working in the software industry. I went to school to study computer science and while it has treated me well, I would like to try something else that is far from my current work while I feel I am in a comfortable position to do so. Without any real knowledge about jewelry, I have definitely enjoyed what I have been learning thus far, both online and offline.
As I learn more and more, I feel like I know less and less, if that makes any sense. My head has been constantly spinning with the vast amount of information that there is to learn about jewelry but I am really enjoying myself and want to put in the effort to get the most out of this opportunity I have to get involved in the jewelry business. From what I have experienced so far, I really think I will enjoy this journey into new territory.
Since I have probably already lost most of you with my lengthy post, I will wrap this up. I am happy to be here and hope to make some friends as I get to know some of you fellow PS members. I will try to get beyond my ignorance of jewelry as quickly as I can to save this community from a slew of "how, what, where, and why" posts and try to contribute positively as a thanks for all the help and wisdom I receive from all of you. In some of the skimming I have done of this site so far, it seems that one way I can start giving back is to share some pictures. I can''t promise much more than blurry and out-of-focus images but I intend to get better at that also. I will get to work on taking some pictures of some pieces to share when I take breaks from learning as my way of trying to give back a little while I am still new.
Thank you ahead of time to all who assist me through this site in my learning. I am sure you will be presented with the chance to answer my questions and correct my misconceptions on many occasions in the future.
