Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been totally MIA lately, but for the past two months I've been using all my free time studying for the GRE - I hope to go back to school in the next year or two to pursue a Master's.

Anyway, my test is finally tomorrow, so I was just hoping for a little PS dust if you have any to spare :)

I hope that everyone's doing well - I will try to get back on PS next week & start catching up with everyone ...

Thanks!

Good luck! I took it last year. Make sure you get plenty of rest and don't drink too much b/c they only give you one 15 min. break.

Sending GRE good luck dust your way.

Good luck!

Don't worry when they ask you if you're absolutely sure you want to go ahead and score your test for the third time - it's not actually hinting at anything 8)

Good luck.

It is so easy.

Best of luck to you!

Lots of dust to you!! Good luck!

Good Luck!

Good Luck Dust for ya!

Goodluck, totally not looking forward to taking it in a few short seasons. :/

Good luck Vesper!

Good luck ! I took it a few years ago - it's not so bad

Hi everyone, thanks for the dust!

I already got my scores, and I'm pretty happy with my 700 verbal (97th percentile) and 610 math (50th percentile). I'm pretty dismal at math, and not going into a science field, so no one will really be looking at the math score anyway.

I was a little disappointed with the verbal, because I scored a 750 (99th percentile) on my timed practice test last week. But, I was hoping for at least 700, so 700 is OK.

I am now just waiting with baited breath to get back my essay scores - waiting a few weeks is going to be hard :p

Tacori, you're going to have to let me know one day how you're doing getting a master's with a little one at home. I am going to try to start in September 2012 when my kids are 5 & 2, but I may wait until 2013, when they're 6 & 3 instead, depending on the program I go to. Since I got my Bachelor's in 1999, it feels like forever since I've been in school. I'm going to be the oldest person on campus

It's hard! Not going to lie. Much more difficult than working full-time b/c half my classes are night classes and the amount of reading is insane. T is going to daycare full-time in the fall which will really help! (She is part-time now). My series of internships starts then so there is really no way around it. My DH is very supportive and fills in the gaps. Oh, and my house, gross. Some things I just had to let go of. I don't have time to clean/straighten up until the weekends.

But...I love it. I love learning the things I am. I love using my brain again. I love me some adult time. I love feeling like I am going to make a difference.

I don't think my school even looked at my essay scores. I only had to break a 1,000 so the pressure wasn't too bad. Yay for being done and having good scores! I found every school usually lists what they are looking for so as long as you are above that you are golden. What are you going back for?

ETA: You will NOT be the oldest. I promise! I am usually somewhere in the middle, to upper end of age in my classes. Life experience REALLY helps though!

Tacori, thanks so much for sharing your experience with me. I totally know what you mean about feeling mentally stimulated again. It was actually exciting for me to study for the GRE, because it was so nice to be doing something intellectual again.

My older son is going to start full-day kindergarten in 2013, and my little one with be 3 then (and pre-school age) so I'm thinking that may be a good time to start, because I can find a full-time preschool/daycare program for the little one, but the older one will already be in public school, so that should be easier. Some of the programs that I'm looking at are actually more evening classes (say starting at 4:30 or 7:30) so that would be ideal for me, if I could just go to school later in the day. We'll see where I end up going, and what they offer ...

Thanks again for taking the time to tell me about it. When I first read that you were going back to school, I totally admired you, because it's so hard to break out of that SAHM mold. But now that I see other moms around me doing it, it's very inspiring.

You are so sweet! Not sure how inspirational I am though! ;)) Something to think about is when admissions takes place. The program I am in ONLY takes applications once a year so I had to wait 9 months from applying to start taking courses. Luckily the GRE scores are good for awhile (5 or 6 years I think?) so you got the difficult part done! My daughter thinks it is so funny I go to school like she does. I have mastered the art of multitasking. I take a textbook with me almost everywhere so I don't waste anytime (ex. read while waiting for her in the car line). I make sure to get ahead on my reading so if something comes up, I am not screwed. Also I am taking 6 months longer to complete my degree than many of my cohorts. My sanity is WORTH 6 extra months and in the long run, the time doesn't matter. If waiting til 2013 makes more sense for you, then do it! You can always start off slow too. Just take one class until your older one is in school.

Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
