Ahhhhhhh! About a month ago I mentioned that I would be taking a weekend trip to see my SIL and this is the weekend! So this time tomorrow I will be rubbing elbows with my fellow passengers on Metro North, the plan is to get to Grand Central by noon and she is going to pick me up from there. She lives in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn so we are going to hang out in Brooklyn tomorrow, Saturday is Manhattan including stops at the Metropolitan Museum, the Lego store (have to bring something back for the kids, Central Park (never been there) and then Sunday she mentioned exploring the Hudson valley depending on timing.

This is a bit of an aside and not that it matters much but I found out her roommate works for Goldman Sachs, her family is very powerful in New York, okay then, slightly intimidating if I'm being honest. They recently got a french bulldog puppy and she is the cutest thing, the puppy is as exciting as the rest of the trip for me :P

DH will be in charge of the kids for the weekend, no worries there but I have reminded him multiple times not to forget to feed BunBun since he normally doesn't take care of the rabbit. Maybe I'll just leave sticky notes on the cage for peace of mind lol!

If anyone has suggestions for places to see while in Manhattan or a favorite spot to grab a bite, I'm all ears! I'll be back with an update and pictures when I get back.

I have no suggestions, but it seems like a great trip. I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself. Looking forward to the update, complete with photos!

Oh Stephanie I hope you have a terrific time here. You will be in my neighborhood. :))
I however am away this weekend but maybe next time you visit! I think your plans for your NYC weekend are perfect. If you're n the mood for pizza go to John's on Bleeker. Have fun!!!! And I'm with you. The French bulldog would be a high point for me too. I miss having a puppy or even a dog for that matter. Enjoy. :appl:

Sounds like it'll be a fun weekend! I don't get out of Brooklyn much these days, so don't have any tips on Manhattan, but in Park Slope, you can take the puppy to Prospect Park, check out Smorgasburg on Sunday, should be fun: https://www.smorgasburg.com/

Have a great weekend! It sounds like fun!

I head straight to Broadway every time I'm in NYC!

Thank you for all the well wishes and Alene and Elliot for the suggestions!

Missy, thanks for the pizza suggestion, so funny that she lives in your neighborhood, it really is a small world! I hope you have a fun time on your weekend away.

+1 to Johns!!
I love that place.
The meatballs are amazing.
Even the salad is special.

By all means, enjoy Greenwich Village before NYU turns the entire place into a hotel:(

Did anyone mention Katz' Deli?

Enjoy NYC Stephanie!!

Park Slope is close enough to Habana Outpost, so yummy and the best frozen margaritas!

Hey all!

I am on the train home, it was a great weekend overall. My SIL and her roommate had a squabble about the new puppy and shared responsibility expectations but that was a small blip on the radar.

I got to Brooklyn on Friday and we basically explored the neighborhood, the brownstones are so amazing! Needed to buy food and she is a member of the Park Slop Food Coop, the quality of the food was incredible, some of the best cheese I've ever tasted. Back home and had lunch, played with the dog and hung out a bit. Went to Westview on their rooftop bar, the sights were amazing, it was sunset, very pretty. People were very friendly, I was surprised by this actually. Oh, we also discovered the most adorable vintage clothing shop, Beacon's Closet. I bought a couple of vintage dresses, we had Mexican at Mitsi Mitsi for dinner.

Saturday was Manhattan day, we walked all day pretty much, highlights were St. Patrick's cathedral, SoHo, Central Park, NYU campus (where she is attending grad school). We also walked the Brooklyn bridge, that was a hike, I joked that it seemed like the Mexican border there were so many people walking and biking across! I didn't take a lot of pictures, kind of forgot since I was just taking it all in. Dinner was Mexican again with ice cream from Ample Hills for dessert.

SIL is studying food safety and her passion is sustainable agriculture, we had a nice conversation over dessert, I learned a lot.

By far the transportation experiences were the most stressful, the subway is insane, people getting on and playing music and asking for money, people holding a virtual press conference to a captive audience. It was just so different. First ride in an Uber and taking a cab as well. The traffic situation is crazy, horns mean essentially nothing, you can't even tell who is beeping anyways, pedestrians just accept a car coming within a foot as part of the environment. However, I had to get on the train from Grand Central alone and I nailed it! So proud of myself.

Sorry this was so long, it was a wonderful weekend though. People in NY are lovely, not the same bothered, aloof vibe you can get in CT. I was constantly saying excuse me and apologizing for being in the way but nobody cared, it was very cool.

Here are a few snapshots I took yesterday.

Welcome home, StephanieLynn!

I'm too late to say 'Have fun!', but I'm glad to hear you did. Isn't New York wonderful! I spent four days in Manhattan (Times Square), and loved it! Friendly, helpful people and lots to see!

Great photos! Beautiful!

Most importantly, good for you! You are more capable and independent than you realize. You've got wings, Woman! Don't be afraid to spread them and fly! Its a good thing to do for yourself and as a lesson for your children. :))

It sounds like you had a great weekend Stephanie. I also found New Yorkers to be extremely nice and friendly.

Beautiful pics and glad you had a good time!
