Kyle and Jackie O’s Lie Detector segment turned to disaster today when a 14-year-old girl - dragged on the 2Day FM radio show by her mother - angrily revealed she had been raped.

The girl, who had been brought on to undergo a lie detector test about her mother’s concerns about her drug and sex experience, told Kyle Sandilands before the questions started: "I’m scared ... it’s not fair."

The mother told the presenters she was worried about her daughter''s use of drugs and partying, before going on to ask the teenager if she ever skipped school.

The mother then asked her daughter: "Have you ever had sex?"

The 14-year-old replied: "I’ve already told you the story about this ... and don’t look at me and smile because it’s not funny."

After a pause she then raised her voice and said: "Oh okay … I got raped when I was 12 years old."

Sandilands hesitated before asking "Right ... is that the only experience you’ve had?"

The girl’s mother interrupted, saying she only found out about the rape "a couple of months ago".

Jackie O then said they would drop the lie detector test as they had been unaware of the rape incident.

2DayFM General Manger Jenny Parkes issued a statement said: "All due care and consideration was given to the family and clearly we didn’t know anything about the incident.

"The moment we became aware of it was live on air and we shut it down as soon as we possibly could.

"As is only appropriate, we are offering all the assistance we can to the family, including counselling, in what is of course an extraordinarily difficult situation."

Radio Segment

... It made me tear up, that poor girl

what kind of mother would do this to her daughter?!

Omfg! And her mom was SMILING while her daughter talked to her about it on the show? That woman should lose custody, seriously. Who the hell laughs when their kid tells them they''ve been raped?

That is so disgusting! I can''t believe a mother would act that way, I feel really sad for that poor girl. At least the female radio personality had enough common sense to end the segment fast, apologize and offer counseling.

I just saw on Yahoo News that their radio show has been canned indefinitely -- I''m quite surprised. I mean, I know things often happen in the media that people are appalled by, but so rarely is anything actually done about it. Australia is really stepping up to the plate in regards to unacceptable media stunts though. First the Chaser gang, and now this. I''m not a fan nor a foe of Kyle or Jackie O, but think something needed to be done to show them that they need to conduct themselves in a better manner. I mean, the mother was mostly at fault here, but Kyle really should have completely aborted the entire segment as soon as the word "rape" crossed that girl''s lips. I would have thought that would be common sense. And both he and JO should have been much quicker with an official apology, instead of whinging about the media "villifying" them.

putting a teenager into this situation....raped or not....is disgusting. the mother should be hooked up to an interview and asked about all her private sexual practices. i hadn't listened to the segement before but merely read it. now that i've listened to it, i'm pissed!

Unfortunately this is not the first time this drop kick guy has done this sort of stunt.
I absolutely loathe this Kyle and his vacuous side kick Jackie O. The whole programs based on humiliation and degradation of people yet is one of the most highly rated radio shows in Australia and the presenters make serious money.
Would you believe the mother did it to win tickets to a Pink concert?
It has caused a huge controversy here in Australia with lots of people blaming the mother first and foremost but if it hadn''t been for the announcers or producers to have the idea to lie detect a minor about her sexual experiences on radio if would have never occurred.
I am furious about it and have written to the station.

And now even Ten has stepped up and axed him from Idol. I find that even more surprising -- though I completely agree with their press release, explaining that his actions aren''t conducive to the "family viewing atmosphere" that Ten desires. I wonder who they''ll have replace him? I hope it''s not another "everything''s perfect" character, a la Marcia.

I suspect there''s a real chance this will either completely sink his career, or he''ll somehow use it as a jumping board to even more ridiculous stunts in the future. I mean, even Howard Stern has managed to keep his career, and he makes Kyle look like a saint.

I don't think there's much good to be said for the segment of the media that delights in making money off of the degrading and humiliating people -- the Jerry Springers, Maury Poviches and their wannabes. And there is absolutely nothing good to be said for people like the mother in this segment, who are willing to sacrifice people they supposedly love and care about in their quest for fifteen minutes of fame.

That said, these hosts at least had the good sense to realize very quickly that their little stunt had crossed a line. Yes, they should never have put the girl in that position in the first place... yes, they should have just turned off the mikes once they realized the position they were in, damn the radio consequences... but at least they didn't laugh it off and continue.

A few years ago a local station here held a contest that resulted in a woman's death -- even though they were warned before and during the event that they were endangering their contestants:

I am glad Kyle and Jackie O got the boot, regardless of whether the young girl was raped or not they hooked a child up to a lie detector in a hope to humiliate her for what, ratings? Good ridance!

Unfortunately the announcer took himself off air as the station wanted to enforce a 7 second delay on air time and he wouldn''t have it.
This is some of the stunts they have pulled before absolutely unbelievable. I loathe them and despair for my country that have them as the top rating radio show in the country

Watch the footage of the reunion with the family members that they humiliated and tortured. It is cruel.

Kate I couldn''t agree with you more. I''ve always found Kyle pretty easy to ignore because I''ve never had any inclination to watch or listen to anything featuring him, but I was shocked, disgusted and appalled by the events outlined in that media watch episode. I simply can''t believe they could be so callous to two people so desperate to meet each other for the first time.

As for the most recent controversy clearly the mother was not acting in the best interests of her child, but I cannot fathom how Kyle could go on to ask ''was that your only experience'' after she revealed she had been raped

I hope this is the end for Kyle Sandilands. I was particularly disgusted today in the checkout at the supermarket to see his smug face beaming out from all the tabloid mags in which he was bleating about how upset he is that his career is in ruins.

double post.

his defense [and in his mind i''m sure], he''s male and he''s just doing his job.

no it wasn''t right, he needs sensitivity training, the mother needs to be waterboarded, and the girl deserves a better life.

Unfortunately the show will be returning to the airwaves next week

.
A columnist have named them Vile and Tackie (Kyle and Jackie) and it certainly fits.
Also the biggest age group for listeners is in the 10-17 age group

.
This gives you some idea of the quality of the humour is school yard prank stuff but ramped to 1000 time worse.

That's just unbelievable.

I hope the show's sponsors do the right thing and that the network gets hit hard where it counts.

I''m beyond disappointed to learn of this. Like you it really bothers me that they attract such a young demographic who they are encouraging to think such behaviour is not only amusing, but also acceptable. Who in their right mind would think it appropriate to take part in a radio stunt where in their boyfriend is invited to identify them by their genitals? (Just another of their oh so amusing stunts).

Maybe I''m getting old, but I think I''ll stick with the grey cardigan wearers at the ABC.
