Hi all! My son is participating in a project at school and needs to buy a gift for a 14 year old boy. He was told to spend 10-15 dollars. He wasn''t given any other info as to this boy''s preferences. Does anyone have any suggestions? My son and I are drawing a blank. It''s hard to come up with ideas for teenagers! (and my son is one, and he''s of no help!) I thought of gloves, a scarf, or a hat or all three, but that seems a little boring, would like to make it something fun for the holidays. On the other hand, maybe he could use them! I don''t know, a board game maybe? I thank you in advance for any ideas you may have!

I have a 14 year old boy at home who is into music (i-tunes gift card), movie tickets from the local theater, books (The Dangerous Book for Boys) and sports (hat or gloves with team logo). I''ll drop you a note if I can think of anything else. Happy shopping.

Excellent ideas Gayle! Thank you so much! I like the idea of sports logo apparel, we live in an area where the local football team is extremely popular.

I dont know if you''re into giving books as gifts...but the Alex Rider series is a pretty popular one with boys around 14. It''s written by Anthony Horowitz and you could probably pick up a couple for under $15.

Thanks Italia, good idea, I''m so glad I posted this question!

I have a 13 year old son and I think the sports logo thing clothing is a good idea but regarding the Itunes card but that could be risky because he may not have an ipod and if not, its just a reminder of what he does not have. I woud give a gift that does not require they already have something.

My son asked me to buy him the games LIFE and RISK for his next birthday.

Its so hard to buy for someone you don''t know even when you have a child the same age. And I laughed bout your son being no help. Sounds like my son.

He also loves baseball caps.

Rubics cubes are popular at his school which cracks me up because they were big when I was in Jr. High. definate ''80''s flashback!

Oh man, I hate saying this, but please make sure that any logo sports apparel doesn''t have gang-related ties. I don''t know where you are, but wearing certain teams'' apparel can signify gang affiliation in certain areas. Here''s a link that gives a rundown of possible gang-related attire.

My suggestions: a football or basketball, a travel board game (he can take it to school or on the bus or whatever), playing cards, a Sudoku or other puzzle book, Axe deordorant/body wash/body spray (boys this age seem to love this stuff, if my brother and his friends are any indication), movie tickets.

...okay when i was 14 it was about music, sports, girls, the mall and movies...(and of course for me jewelry)....so im thinkin that music, dvds or gift certificates for the movies or music would be a cool idea.

Target giftcard or similar...gah, that is such a tough age for boys or girls!

I am sure you already know this but take into consideration whether the boy is a local kid in your son''s school or whether he is a underprivileged kid from another city/neighborhood. If he is an underprivileged boy don''t give him store gift cards (he may have no access to the store or feel intimidated to use it).

Stay away from anything red or blue as those are gang colors that are not allowed in some schools.

I think you''ve got some great suggestions. The only things I can add are

Sunglasses
Playing cards and Poker chips (comes a set)

I would do a subscription to Sports Illustrated.

Thanks to everyone for such fantastic suggestions! Now we have so many good ideas it will be hard to decide lol.

Kittybean, thanks for the heads-up about the gang-related clothing. We live very close to a major city, so it could definitely be a factor. Sad to have to worry about something like this, isn''t it?

You guys are great, thank you!
