WOW. The town objected to his desire to use his property to create jobs so now he's going to try to make low income housing happy there instead and take the jobs elsewhere. ROFLMAO. http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/story/2012-04-10/george-lucas-drops-studio-plans/54161754/1

Revenge is best served cold? Wow. Bunch of snobby Marin homeowners are gonna WISH that he built that studio there when he gets done with them. I'm just sorry we're going to lose all those wonderful jobs thanks to those people.

Not surprised at all. I'm curious to know which two communities have approached him and have the space to pull it off. Stay tuned...

Hahahahaha. Maybe next time they won't turn their noses up when someone wants to build, creating jobs, tax breaks and business for the area!

That is just perfect. People are nuts. It's not like they were proposing building something like low income housing.

if you've actually been to that area you will know it is RURAL.
it is not commercial or residential zoned.
lucas has a big facility in the presidio.
his "studio" jobs would pull people from the south land and not necessarily provide employment for "locals".
i can understand why the lucas valley residents objected.

Ha! I live across the bridge and I had a few friends as a teen that lived in Sausalito, and a few near Mt. Tam. I think Marin likes to isolate itself from the rest of the Bay Area a little ( no BART for example). I hope I didn't insult anyone from Marin by saying that but it seems to be true. I think the residents near his property probably want it to stay quiet and private.

The thing is change happens no matter where you live. As a native to San Franciscan I was upset when the dot comers took over the city. Boy did things change as far as prices and development. I have strong opinions about it still.

DH and I are Marin homeowners, although we don't live in Lucas Valley, so I got a kick out of seeing something local on PS. I hesitated to respond, but felt compelled to chime in. I find nothing wrong with fighting to preserve the nature of a home/town that you hold dear. If you've never been to Lucas Valley, the quietness and open space are it's most valuable attributes, so I can understand the residents' fear of that being stripped away. Imagine someone taking your favorite part of where you live, slowly chipping away at it, and saying you should be happy about it in the name of economic growth. Economic growth is good, but so is living in a place you love enough to want to fight for it.

I've been to the area many times. I worked for years up in Marin and used to go sight seeing up there quite a bit. I have friends who live up in Marin, but I gotta say as much as I like people up there individually I generally dislike the isolationist culture of the area that appears to think that it's too good to mingle with the rest of the bay. And this is just another example to me. Just like the Bart thing.

marin county was not the only county to reject Bart.
look how long it took to get access to SFO.
look how long it took to get it to San Mateo.
and it is still rejected by Santa Clara County.
however, that might change if the new stadium gets built down that way.

in all, gypsy, do you not think that residents of areas have a right to determine what is right/good for their own area?
or should the needs/wants of those that do not live there be more important?

It's all very confusing. I was just reading somewhere that some Marin officials are trying to get Lucas to reconsider.

I would think it would provide various jobs for Marin County residents. Not just in the neighborhood but the county as a whole right?

I believe that there should be a balance between short term conservation and long term growth and that many of the residents of certain areas are short sighted and fear any change and demonize it. I don't believe all change is good, and in fact feel much of it can be bad, but I do believe that in this case there could have been some compromises made between the two positions.
