Has anyone watched Gem Hunters? It's a show where three people (a geologist, a gem trader, and a designer) go to crazy places looking for wholesale gems. Which now just makes me want a bunch of different gems. Have any of you seen this show?
I've got it on the DVR and it's improved a lot after the first episode. The first episode was full of malarkey. Subsequent episodes have lead to me feeling that all their valuations are off by a factor of 10. Example, their $30,000 sapphire is really only a $3000 sapphire. I enjoy it, it's interesting to see where stones are found.
Thanks iLander! I don't care much about the valuation- I love seeing where the gems come from and how they go from a rock on the ground to something yummy. I'm also curious to see the lady's handbags she always talks about. I can't even imagine what they are selling for if they have a $10k stone as a decoration.
Ha, I was wondering if it was the same show! Once again my sieve-like memory has me newly excited about old news, lol! But hey, its new to me and if you tell me about it again tomorrow, I'll be all excited again, like its the first time I've heard about it...

Hi,
This is the third one I've seen. I also enjoy watching it, but either these guys don't know what they are doing or the purpose for them is to make a show. I find our narrator very unclassy, Last nite he was so willing to overpay that i thought he's making his money in the TV show, not the gems. I have a beautiful welo opal that i paid 25.00 per carat for, while he has to go to the mine and pay 50.00 or much more for the stones.
But I agree it is interesting. Many countries are regulating how stones are sold and exported. He made everything sound so dangerous, and suspicious, but believe me I noticed he made every purchase from an authorized broker no matter how much of an intrigue(Sp) he made it seem.
His trip to Vietnam for rubies i found interesting as well. I think he may have done well there considering the price of rubies.
The tanzanite episode I enjoyed because one ofthe colored stone vendors we recommend was the first one he went to. He could get over 10 ct stones for $300 per ct, and ended up paying 150.00 for very nice 15-19 cts stones.
I will continue to watch. I missed one, am looking for it.
