My sister would like to have a book about minerals and gems for Christmas(not just diamonds) she would like it to also have pictures of the gems, where the come from, ect...I have one, but it''s not what I think she wants, its isnt really detailed, does anyone have any good suggestions? Thank you.

Secrets of the Gem Trade, The Connoisseur''s Guide To Precious Gemstones by Richard W. Wise.

Wonderful book, well written, informative, great pictures.

I second Secrets of the Gem Trade

Gemstones of the World, by Walter Schumann, is a good one too. Contains the technical info about gems, as well as sources, pictures, etc. Amazon link

Wonderful, thank you I will check them both out!

get richard''s book! its worth every penny! not that the gems he photos are to be had for pennies!

Looks like Richards book it is, thanks for the suggestion!

I''d appreciate more suggestions as I''m taking the suggestions as gifts for myself (and to educate myself). Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Gems and Gemstones *just* came out -- it''s kind of an encyclopedia of gems written by the curators of a big gem exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago.

I just ordered Richard''s book. I''ll check out that encyclopedia one too.

Edit, I just reread your OP.
Sorry I was recommending a diamond book.
