I can''t be much help here, but I COMPLETELY understand what you are feeling. I''m hating the venue search too...We''re actually going to book a place next weekend, and we made our decision out of pure practicality. Not that we hate the place, but I''ll be honest that it''s not my first choice. All the place we liked just wouldn''t work for us. I hope it will work out for you.

I know what you mean about loving a place with history. We''ve looked at two places that SANG to me for the same reason, but it''s just not possible for the guest''s comfort. Good luck.
I''m starting to really consider booking based on practicality. There is one place (which we will visit next weekend again) that is booked with a wedding planner. Essentially, the provide the band, limo, and flowers. That would be very convenient since I''ll be 3000 miles away

. But we will make the final decision this weekend, I hope.

Well..I thought I had responded to this thread, but maybe not. I absolutely am in

with that venue. The entrance is gorgeous..and so is the ballroom. So I am partial.

Brooklyngirl -- can you give me a sense of your venue budget? My fiance & I are also looking in NY but for something much smaller than the Grand Prospect Hall (we''re actually having trouble finding a place where our smaller reception won''t look empty) and I''ve seen a lot of great places!

Do you have the NY Magazine Weddings edition? Or have you used the website? I HIGHLY recommend it. Link

Ack! I just saw these posts.

Sarah - I love the place too. But today I was thinking (at the rist of sounding like a crazy lady

) that perhaps FI just gets a weird/creepy/uncomfy feeling about it since it's so old, and has all those old painting all over the place. He denies it but, if that's the case, then I don't want to have it there. That came out completely ridiculous, but there it is, i said it.

TheBigT - I'm not sure I have a specific budget, but our total budget is 40K (this excludes honeymoon, and rings). I guess the venue budget would have to be 20-25k. Our biggest problem is finding a venue that would do a family style reception. We're going to see choice #2 tomorrow, and hopefully I will like it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Please send the famous PS fairy dust my way
