I just wanted to wish you all well as we embark on the 2009-2010 school year. I begin my journey tomorrow, and have been filled with anxiety. It seems like every year gets harder and harder instead of easier. I''m not quite sure why, but I feel like I will need lots of *DUST* sent my way for this upcoming school year.

For all of the other teachers out there, I want to say "thanks" for all of your hard work! I know how much time, money, and energy you invest to making each year the best for all of your students. I wish you all a wonderful school year, filled with much fullfillment and joy!

Thanks Beechezz!!! Here''s some school year *DUST* for you!
We have a new principal this year, and the few conversations that i''ve had with him leads me to believe that he is a micro-manager, and a pompous you-know-what. I''m gonna need a bunch of "don''t quit your job" dust this year...

Tuckins,

Thanks for the *dust*, usually situations are worse in my mind, so hopefully tomorrow will relieve some of my anxiety. I made the mistake of looking at my class lists, BAD IDEA!

I hope that your year goes well despite the micro-managing big brother (lol). I will be here for you, and I am sending lots of *dust* your way that it works ok out!

Have a great year!

Thanks Beechezz! How sweet! Tuckins (and Beechezz), good luck to you this year!

I''m at a new school this year, in a completely different area of the country than what I''m used to. It''s a different world here in many ways. I feel like it''s night and day! I have to stop myself from saying "well at my old school..." whenever I''m comparing things here to what I''m familiar with at home. It''s not fun being the new kid. I''m determined to make it a good year though. Luckily, I''m teaching the same grade, so that''s familiar.

It''s nice that you have the same grade... At least you have SOME familiarity! How are the other teachers? Have you made any friends?

Hi Tuckins!

Thanks for asking! The other teachers at my new school are all very nice, which has made me feel welcome. I''d love to make new friends with my coworkers, but that''s slow going. I''ve hung out a couple of times with one of them (who is also new to the area).

Best of luck and lots of dust to all you teachers! Hope you have a great year.

Zoe,

What part of the country did you move from and to? I''m curious to know how the kids are in the other part of the country. I am on the East Coast. I know it has to be a different world compared to say, the midwest. I teach kids with disabilities (most of them emotional), so it is very challenging to say the least. Sometimes I wonder why I chose this path, but it can be very fulfilling.

Best of luck to you Zoe! Keep us posted on your progress. I''m sure you will do just fine and make lots of new friends!

(BTW, I know what it is like being the new kid....I have done it 3 times in the last 5 years!)

I''ve taught on the East Coast and the midwest. Kids are kids. I really didn''t notice much of a difference. The differences lie more with the parents...

Can I say thank you for your kind words even though I''m only teaching part-time now?

My classes start up on September 10th, and I could not be more excited about the change! I moved from teaching high school to teaching community college. I started out in CC, so I know what to expect (for the most part) and I''m very much looking forward to it.

Have a great school year, everyone!

Thanks MC!

Beechezz -- my husband and I moved from New England to NC. It''s completely different in so many ways. Thanks so much -- that''s really sweet!

Musincy -- you''re right, kids are kids. The kids I have in my class now could easily be in my classroom in NE. There does seem to be a huge difference when it comes to certain values and what particular districts deem are important.

Best of luck Haven!

School doors opened August 20th, so two weeks in and back to routine. I'm subbing this year (finding a job is not possible in this economy for new teachers where I live). The school where I have worked consistently in the past has kept me fairly busy again, for the beginning of the year and I expect my days to fill up as time goes on.

I haven't been called back to the part time position I held last year; the principal and I never found solid footing with one another, so I'm not suprised, but I'd loved the work I had been doing (small group work with students at one grade level who struggle), so I'm a bit sad. I guess I'm not quite a "real" teacher, but I'm glad to be back and look forward to the day when I have my own classroom.

Thanks beechezz! Dust for you..and for all my fellow teachers

I hope your first day went well, and I hope things get easier for you! How many years have you been teaching?

My first day is tomorrow-I had a great summer vacation so it will be a little rough going back. I am sure everyone knows the feeling!!!Good luck everyone!

Hey all thanks for the warm wishes and dust to you all as well! I have orientation tomorrow at my first teaching job, I will be teaching middle school students with Autism. I have worked for two years as a teaching assistant in another district and now I will finally have my own class! I am very anxious about tomorrow and the impending school year but I hope all will go well!

Good luck to you all especially my fellow first year teachers!
