My Mom''s dirty rice...best in the world! She passed away October 2007 and I haven''t tried to make it yet.

My Memaw''s fried chicken. She always cut up a whole chicken so I could get the "pully bone" piece. She just turned 100 years old and isn''t cooking much anymore.

Now that I''m on so many medicines, I can no longer drink alcohol. I sure do miss my Bellinis, though!

Waaaaayyy too many to list. People in India and Dubai looovvee to eat, and the food is always so rich and delicious. I do have a regular influx of people visiting from both places, so I keep requesting for specific things each time.

I did, however, find an Indian supermarket here that sells Indian Hapus mangoes (these juicy lilttle things are just absolutely to die for) - I buy them for 2$ per mango, each mango is the size of a small apple/pear. I can easily have 3 at one sitting!

Aero bars!! I am so sad that you can only find them in the states in little British food stores, so they''re uber expensive.

Ketchup chips.
18.gif
Or dill chips! Humpty-Dumpty, how I miss thee!
39.gif

I didn''t really enjoy this when I lived there (too young?) but now I miss Montreal smoked meat. OMG. Meat + mustard + roll = heaven.

OMG. Plus one for all of these! In my weakness, I''ve paid $30 for a couple of Aerobars, HP sauce and Bird''s custard mix. Also, basil gelato from the best ice cream store in Vancouver!

From the Philippines: mangosteen, rambutan, durian (yes, durian), jackfruit, lanzones, seafood and real halo-halo.

Whitby (and other Aussies in the US) - Pepperidge Farm is selling Tim Tams now, but only during the cooler months. They''re the originals too - just Americanized packaging.

thanks elrohwen :)

Ewwww. What is with you crazy Canadians?!!

And can I please second Montreal smoked meat sandwiches a la Schwartz''s! When we plan our trip down to mtl, we set our lunches and dinners waaayyy in advance. So many yummy things to eat, so little time.

Persian food made be real Iranians. I had some Iranian friends in college and they would have big potlucks. I loved everything. I don''t know all the names, but there was beef cooked in ground walnuts and pomegranate juice, a rice dish with chicken, dill, and zereshk( tiny sour barberries) and with a beautiful tadihg(crust on the outside), and khoresh karafs (a thick beef and celery stew served over rice) and my personal fave, gormeh sabzi (beef and red beans fried up with a finely chopped mixture of an onion grass like chives, parsley and fresh fenugreek - good fresh fenugreek is NOT something available in Oklahoma. Period).

I have made a few of these in the past, but I want my friend Rana to make it FOR me. :)

when I lived in Switzerland for a year, I missed peanut butter and maple syrup a lot! (I''m Canadian)
i lived in switzerland for a year, too! i was a rotary exchange student! oh i missed peanut butter!

i also really missed taco bell for some reason, and oreo cookies. my grandfather sent me 17 packages over the course of the year i was gone- i would share them with my schoolmates. i also missed ranch dressing and chicken wings.

now that i''ve been home for some years, i miss yogurette''s chocolates (my swiss favorite), rachlette cheese dishes, the real swiss fondue, kebabs, the crusty bread with currant jam, the mustard and mayo in tubes (i brought some home with me and have run out...it was so good!). hmmm...anyone in europe want to start trading food???

Im heading back to Aus in a few days, and ive been literally salivating over the thought of all the foods im going to eat that i cant get in Canada....

What are foods that you miss? could be from a place you used to live, or from your childhood, or foods you cant really eat anymore....
growing up in the Philly area and now living in Texas..Cheesesteaks, tastykakes,WaWa and Philly Pretzels. Oh, and Utz potato chips.

I am drooling at my desk.

I don''t know what part of Texas you''re in, but if you''re in the Dallas area I can recommend a great cheesesteak place. They also sell tastykakes and utz chips!

As for me, I crave tacos from Juan''s Hacienda in Dallas. Hands down the best tacos I''ve ever hand anywhere. I used to buy their taco meat and freeze it and take it with me back home to wherever I lived. But they closed and I miss them.

Other things that I used to love and can''t get anymore are Snapple Cherry Lime Rickey sodas and Kudos Cookies ''n Cream bars.

Sillyberry: I am in Houston (bleh) and have found Utz ONCE at Central Market. Bought a huge thing of Love Dip and cleared out a bag...yeah, I ran like 6 miles the next day as an attempt at redemption for my binge. LOL.

I have NEVER been to Juans...but am coming to the big D in a few weeks and might have to make a trip.

2 other things I need to add to my list....Juan in a Millions Don Juan Taco from Austin (sigh.) and also Fried Oreos from the Houston Rodeo. I.can''t.resist. BF was my willpower against this year at the cook-off.

36.gif
We had the willpower to walk right past the Oreos and made it home..to order a pizza.
38.gif
We like food...and because of it you will find us at the gym whenever we are not stuffing our faces.

From Philadelphia I miss:
Tastycakes, Soft Pretzels, Cheesesteaks, Pizza
Awesome new development. Was talking to my Nana (lives in Ridley Park still) on the phone a few days ago and telling her of my dreams of tastykakes. Guess what I got today? My first shipment of 4 (that is right FOUR!!!!!!) tastykake deliveries.
36.gif
I put the chocolate peanut butter patties right in the freezer. I am going to eat them. All of them. I won''t share, either.

I live in the UK and years ago they used to make these amazing wee packets of sweets called Galaxy Counters. They were very similar to Cadbury's chocolate buttons and they were fabby-doo. I also loved Texan bars, which were kinda nougat bars with chocolate round them and you'd take one bite and all the chocolate would fall off - good quality obviously.

Also Caramacs and Coconut Banjo's. I used to love frozen cola quenchy-cups (carton of juice) which we called jubilees, have no idea why. That was summer to me, the smell of rhododendrons, melting tar, chopper bikes and jublilees - 70's-tastic!!!

Ye cannae-whack a box of Belgian pralines and a cup of Earl Grey of an afternoon when it hits 3pm. We do like our tea-breaks here. Pity I stopped eating chocolate and sweets 9 months ago, but I can be tempted with Belgian praline or Toblerone.

Oh, and Tudor spring onion or pickled onion crisps or Golden Wonder cheese and onion, they were the best.

For all you Aero lovers, they have these packets of Aero bubbles, which are wee round balls of Aero and they're just divine. You can also get them in mint chocolate too. Check this out

I really miss my great aunt''s Norwegian cookies she used to make every Christmas. They were sooooooo good!!!

I haven''t done much travel so I think what I miss most is the fresh food we had in Mexico. We stayed at a private villa where we had a personal chef for breakfast and dinner. The food was amazing and I really just miss fresh, natural food. We had the best chicken mole there. I hate chicken here in the US, but loved it there. I watched Food, Inc. recently and now I know why.
14.gif

I''ve never heard of Pouline, but I think my husband would love it. I read the description to him and his eyes lit up! LOL

Try Indian supermarkets. They always have them in India town here. We eat a LOT of fenugreek, used both as herbs as well as vegetables.

I have a big box of Galaxy Jewels sitting in my fridge

I get a box everytime I visit Dubai, or my father comes down!

Also, LOVE Belgian pralines. Neuhaus makes the best!

DF you know you want some yummy sea cucumber!
i still eat some now and then, but that''s not what i had in mind.
9.gif
oh well do tell - I wonder if it''s something I''ve seen around :D

Okay, I admit it - I tried a tiny little bit of donkey dumplings - didn''t like it. I''m drawing the line at cat and dog but I know people who have eaten one or both and admit they liked it... is that what you refer to??

Cehre-is it Mi Wadi? D''s addicted to that stuff.

ETA-whoops just saw you found the name of it!!!

Vienetta!
we used to get this years (18) ago in upstate NY and I hadn''t seen it in 15 years and boom - there it was in Ireland. It wasn''t the same though - the irish seem to like VERY little egg in their ice cream custard and also little vanilla flavor so their vanilla tends to taste like fresh cream or whipped cream and all of the other flavors miss those notes as well. As much as I think the milk and cream in Ireland rule the world, the only ice cream I liked from there at all was the honeycomb and cream. That I will miss forever... or until I start making hokey pokey and my own fresh ice cream anyway lol

I miss shellfish!!!!

I developed an allergy to it when I was around 15. Every so often, I make the mistake of ''trying'' to see if my allergy has disappeared... and end up puking, every single time

Paprika Chips in the Netherlands- I know, bbq is like those, but the chips there were so much better! And to Irish people- should I say crisps?
27.gif

Of course you should say crisps

!!

We were in a bar in NY last week and the guy said that he''d bring us out a basket of chips-imagine my disappointment when a big basket of crisps came out!!! I''d forgotten the crisps/chips thing.

For foods I miss-

From Spain- I miss patatas bravas-they are so delicious! Actually I miss all tapas and sangria from there.

From France-they have these crisps that are salt and vinegar and cheese and onion all mixed in the same bag-they are absolutely delicious! I love the bread and cheese over there-can''t wait to go back in the summer.

From home-I really miss my grannies stew. She passed away in 1998 and I still miss her dinners so much. They were delicious!

I just miss the portion size in the US-I know they''re huge but it''s lovely to have that every once in a while. I always miss red velvet cupcakes.
