Food that you REFUSE to eat

I don''t think I have a long list... I like veggies... eggplant is the worst but I have had a few that were okay.

Meats - I don''t like organ meat or anything made out of organ meat... or tripe and I don''t think I''m brave enough to eat thumper even though I''ve eaten bambi and liked it.

Canned foods... corn is okay and pretty much everything else isn''t, including soup. I make soup from scratch - I hate most things canned... except corn - I like it fresh, frozen, canned... I like it all lol

But really the only thing that should be on this list is TARRAGON. That is the most vile weed ever to slimify food!

Wow, there are things that I wont eat, but even I don''t understand why. Like oranges. I love the smell of them. The smell makes my mouth water, but I can''t eat them or drink OJ. The only time I drink it is in mimossas.

Other than that
mussels
oysters
gamey meat
fish
pigs feet
tongue, liver, whatever is in that pack inside the turkey certain family members fight over

I like the flavor onions give, but don''t want one in my mouth. I will not tolerate fat in my mouth. I trim all fat off steaks, pork, whatever.
Skin of any type like off chicken.

Organs/skin
Canned goods [olives/peppers ok]
Raw fish
Salty stuff ie nuts/chips/strong pickles
Okra

Kaleigh funny you think mussels are gritty, I always think CLAMS are. Greg says it has to do with how well they are cleaned but I have very rarely had gritty mussels...yet when I eat one of his clams I almost always get grit!!!

I don't like canned foods much either but there are some things that I had from childhood that I still like today as a result... aka Campbells Chunky soups and also classics like chicken noodle, and chicken n'rice. Even though I know they are packed with sodium and relatively little nutrients, and I love chicken soup from scratch...whenever I am sick with a cold that is what I want to eat!

Cow's tongue, tripe, pigs feet, anything with the word 'tendon' in it ... add that all to the list of odd meat items I won't eat. Oh and 'fat' like on prime rib or whatever, I only eat lean cuts of meat...and also no skin. slimy.

Cottage cheese, I have tried many many times to like it...esp because it's so healthy (low fat, packed with protein, low in sugar and relatively low in calories)... I like it mixed with apples and cinnamon but in general the texture just does not sit well with me!

re: weird meat items, in the Spanish outside markets we saw all sorts of interesting things.

SPAM!!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!

I don''t really like meat and wil avoid eating it as much as possible, except for an occasional grilled chicken as long as there are tons of veggies. (As a child I didn''t want to eat the meat my mom cooked, like spam, ham, steak (it was dry like leather)so I ate up all my veggies. Mom didn''t make me eat the meat I guess because there was never a morsel of veggies left on my plate. She was happy about that)

Nothing canned, nothing pre-prepared and frozen. ( I make my own pizza, but I do buy the canned sauce)

I don''t like the ethnic food my MIL prepares like pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa (so fatty and greasy), but I will eat the borscht (as long it is red and not made with cream). She was always angry at me for not eating whatever she made. Funny thing my DH doesn''t miss her food at all. He said he always had stomach problems until I began cooking for him. (Also, I once made the mistake when I was first dating DH of saying I don''t care for Polish food and she hit the roof because they are not Polish. I didn''t know.)
Pizza sauce is so easy to make. And so yummy too. I can have it done in 20 minutes or let it go for 2 hours. Depends on my mood. You should give it a try. Fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh oregano, a couple cloves of garlic. MMmmmmm. Great addition to a homemade pizza.

I refuse to eat rice. I see maggots every time, and the taste isn''t worth the trouble!

Also on my list:
any ocean dwelling creature or their spawn (meaning caviar) in any form
innards or blood or feet, cheeks, tongues
tartar sauce
ranch dressing

I love beets and venison!!

Hmmm...

Organs
Zuchini
Eggplant
Most squash, actually
Spam
Most canned food - though corn, soup, and Spaghetti-Os are the exceptions (sometimes you just want to feel like you''re 5!)
Cottage cheese
Sour Cream
Fried chicken (unless I can take the skin off - I hate the skin, and I REALLY hate fried chicken skin)
Actually, most fried foods

Salmon, icky poo, hate that stuff.

Liver, can''t stand looking at it.
14.gif

Oh yes - OKRA - Yuck.

It is like licking the slimy trail of a garden slug.

veal
snail
any kind of organs
ox tail
pigs feet
any kind of pickled protein
fresh tomato by itself
large portions of custard
raw oysters
domesticated pork (I always think of my pet sow, and it''s far too salty anyways)
snake
eel
turtle
cabbage
pickles
sour kraut
any fish that still has the scaling attached
mountain oysters
23.gif

plain yogurt (although I''ll gobble up flavored)
artichoke
gizzards
conch
catfish
small fowl
ostrich
ostrich eggs
emu
emu eggs
and yes... I''ve been offered all of these.

My friend and I get together in the late summer and brew up a huge pot or 2 of tomato sauce. She grows the best plum tomatoes and has this device that removes the seeds. She showed me how to slice tomatoes thinly and put fresh mozarella, garlic, and these tomato slices on pizza dough and bake (and just a little grated fresh parmesan) just the greatest. Sorry for the slight digression, we then divy up the sauce and I freeze portions to use throughout the winter. This summer however, the tomato crop wasn''t very good and I do not like the storebought tomatoes so that is why I resort to canned sauce.

Most canned stuff. Ick.
There are a few things in cans I''ll use. Whole Foods organic tomatoes are very good. Not watery. Very good quality. Some canned beans -- but they have to be the correct brand (correct brand varies by bean) so they aren''t too crunchy or overcooke.

What I won''t eat:

shell fish
most seafood of any kind (with no exception I can think of)
sauerkraut
pork
organs & other icky parts (feet, heads, etc.)
weird meats (goat, rabbit, guinea pig, bugs)
fat
skin
grissle
anything with a bone (bone must NEVER touch my plate)
milk (okay if cooked in something)
cottage cheese
pickled veggies
dill pickles
green peppers
raw meats
too rare of meat (or too cooked)
greasy stuff
feta cheese (and other strong cheeses)
bonita flakes
fish paste (or anything with fish paste)
miso soup
link sausage
bulk sausage I haven''t watched be ground
mayonaise (except in potato salad)
mustard (unless there is so little I can''t identify it)
raw veggies (except for lettuce & tomatoes)
black olives
watermelon

There is more that I don''t like but can manage to eat if I have to (like as a dinner guest).

My list looks long. We really do eat well. Lots of variety. beef, chicken, lamb, buffalo, turkey, lots veggies, lots fruits, lots of spicing. Homemade soups and salads and breads. Foods from all over the world.

Bee, how could you hate ketchup??? I couldn''t live without it! lol

I''ll pretty much try anything. I refuse to eat:
Shellfish (I love it, though... stupid allergy) I''ll hurl the second it hits my stomache.
Cottage cheese... Mara, I totally agree with you on that one!
lamb
Black licorice flavored stuff

I agree that a lot of canned food is yucky & loaded with salt. I tried one of those stoffer''s meal in a bag things - soooo salty
14.gif

I''m not a big fan of baked beans, either - that pasty texture, I think.

I'll eat most anything except:

1.) Anything root beer flavored
2.) Anything licorice flavored
40.gif

3.) Pickled vegetables (although, I do like pickles
9.gif
)
4.) Fresh from the cow/goat/donkey/whatever milk
5.) Fermented fish/eggs
6.) Fat squishy bugs

Saw #4, 5 and 6 on the show Bizarre Foods and I know I would not be able to eat these foods

Cottage cheese (I just can''t get over the texture)

Mustard (unless it is on a McDonald''s cheeseburger, that is the ONLY time I eat it!)

Oysters

Raw onions (and most cooked onions, unless they are undetectable)

Lima beans (again, texture)

Instant mashed potatoes- I was raised on the real thing and instant potatoes just have a gross cardboard taste to me

Baked beans

Olives

Butter tea- I had to drink it when I lived in Nepal sometimes so as to not offend the host. It''s a really salty tea usually made with Yak butter that''s just really unpleasant

Fried bread crumbs with dried meat and lard- We had something like this in a small Pueblos Blancos in Spain. I forget what it was called exactly but it was really nasty. We tried to choke it down (we''d ordered some for lunch) but couldn''t stomach more than a few bites.

Okra. There is no way to turn this into an edible vegetable. Period.

Oatmeal. As in a bowl of.

Hominy. Why? Why would anyone eat that?

Grits. Not with butter. Not with cheese. And definitely not with shrimp. Not for breakfast. And certainly not for dinner.
38.gif

ANY odd organ meats, or ''pieces and parts'' of an animal. Tongue, tripe, heart, liver, gizzards. Ick.

Or odd things from the water, like frog legs. Boiled crawfish. Fish served in their scales with their heads still on, eyes staring at you.
6.gif

I won''t eat food that, cooked, resembles itself in its live form. That would be gross.

I''ve never even heard of this before! What is it?

I will not eat:

Root beer
Anything that still resembles the original animal, particularly fish with the head still
Ketchup
Herring
Bugs

About cottage cheese.
I LOVE it when it is very very fresh, but hate it when it is not.

I reach to the back of the supermarket shelf and get the freshest one and eat it that day or the next.

It is like freshly-squeezed orange juice.
The taste goes downhill fast.

Well I am vegetarian so obviously I will eat no meat, fish/seafood, or anything with gelatine, rennet or colouring E120 (Cochanile...a dye produced from the crushed bodies of beetles).

I also intensely dislike:

-Mushrooms (they make me cringe...slimy) It''s a shame because so many veggie dishes are mushroom based. WHY????
-Aubergines, again, a textre problem.
-Blue Stilton cheese, or any cheese with mould. Natural or otherwise, mould should NEVER be eaten...yuk!
-Eggs. The eggiest food I will eat is quiche. Anything more I don''t like. Eggs as an ingredient in bakery etc is fine though. I just can''t eat an egg.

There are probably lots more things. I am a very fussy eater. Certain fruits I will not eat because of the texture or skin. Apples, bananas. peaches, apricots etc. I LOVE the taste of them and am more than happy to have them in smoothie form, but I won''t eat the actual fruit alone. I have never been able to get past the texture. I love apples when they are cooked though, in cakes or pies. I love fruits like satsumas, grapes, berries of most kinds, especially strawberries and raspberries, passion fruit, melon and mango etc. Delicious in ANY form!

I can''t believe so many people won''t eat ketchup!!! My FMIL has special stash in the pantry for when SO and I visit. We LOVE LOVE ketchup!

But I absoultely do NOT eat SEAFOOD!
14.gif
MY SO and many, many people think I''m insane but even the smell of it grosses me out.

Corn. Super-sized. Gargantuan hulls. White and gummy. Corny taste, yukky texture.

I''m a pretty good eater. Will try just about anything. I refuse to eat the following:

Any reptile or amphibian
Fertilized duck egg (Goggle "Balut Egg" and search images...)

BLUEBERRIES. Ew, ew, ew.
Live animals
Animals that look like they did when they were alive
Animal organs
Nuts (I''m deathly allergic)
Shellfish (also allergic)
Kiwi and mango (also allergic)
Raw tomatoes or onions
Avocado
Green olives
Turkey

There are a lot more I just don''t eat, but these are the ones I really refuse to eat.

Liver, pate - anything along those lines.

Water chestnuts.

Bugs.

No tomatoes, onions, or avocados?? You''re not a Texan, are you?
9.gif
No guacamole for you!

Mushrooms! I''ve never tried them but I just know they''re gross!!

kitty, you must not live in CA because we worship our avocados here ...hehe! we even have billboards advertising the benefits of 'real california avocados'!

it cracks me up to see seemingly innocuous things that people don't like....aka oranges. we have a huge 30+ year old orange tree and we are so excited in the spring because it means we have freshly squeezed juice for 3 months!

i agree re: grits and hominy and the like. but you put enough butter on anything starchy and somehow it can taste good.
3.gif
instant mashed potatoes i never even knew existed til a few years ago.

one thing that i was raised on that i used to love but now i can't stand is canned asparagus. the texture...ugh!! i am like 'jeez mom'. oh and i used to hate lentils but now i love them. go figure.
