We''re trying to keep Christmas gift-giving to a minimum this year, by giving gifts to the household as opposed to each person.

The first thing that came to mind are edible gift baskets - anybody have any companies that put together a good selection of stuff?

Or, does anybody have other ideas?

Harry and David comes to mind.

I always do my own baskets, so I''m not much help on that front. But if you want to DIY, here are some ideas:

Movie night basket: Give a gift of netflix for a certain period of time, add buttered popcorn packages, and a throw big enough for two (or two throws if it''s a family with kids)

Lazy sunday basket: coffee mugs (white is always good. And cheap), homemade pancake or muffin mix, homemade hot cocoa mix, a small thing of coffee, and some maple syrup.

Gamenight basket (if they have kids): A board game, a gift certificate (or two) for a pizza joint that''s enough for pizza for everyone, some plastic cups that are game related/fun/personalized, napkins and paper plates.

Baking Basket: A homemade cooke mix with directions, two small baking sheets, a spoon for stirring, a rubber spatula, and a plate for displaying the goods.

For winos (and people who don''t have kids): A bottle of wine (pinot noir is always good. Not too strong and even white wine drinkers tend to like it fair enough), two wine glasses (you can get them monogrammed or personalized pretty cheaply), a nice wine set that has charms or a corkscrew or corkers, etc.

I''ll try to think of more, but these are ones I''ve done in the past.

Ooh yes, Harry and David''s is great.

If they''re movie people you could always put together your own basket of movie theatre candy (in those boxes) and some microwave popcorn with a couple gift cards to Blockbuster or a local movie theatre. Then it''s a gift for the household and it will encourage them to go out and spend some time together. If you go the movie theatre route, you could put it all in a big bag for them to use to sneak the candy the candy into the theatre.

I was thinking of going the DIY route, and those are some great ideas! But, then I have to deal with the shipping...ordering through the Internet sounds MUCH simpler.

Amazon has a vendor "Wine Country Gift Baskets" - anyone ever use them?
