Hillary Clinton is the first female presidential nominee for a major political party.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/26/politics/democratic-convention-roll-call-day-two/

"What an incredible honor that you have given me, and I can't believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet," Clinton said via satellite after a video montage showed the faces of all 44 male presidents before shattering like glass to reveal Clinton waiting to address the convention from New York.

"This is really your victory. This is really your night," Clinton told the cheering crowd. "And if there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say I may become the first woman President. But one of you is next."

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

It's about time, considering other 3rd world countries have had female leaders/presidents already. In any case, my vote will go to the most qualified person in line with my views rather than gender.

hi Ruby! yes a momentous occasion!

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

I guess amend to be nominated to run for president by one of the two main US political parties. For example, Jill Stein is running for the president under the Green party, same election. You know, I didn't think I'd be affected, but I watched a little of the convention and that part was affecting. Maybe because my oldest daughter, when learning about the presidents, asked me why there were no female presidents. We may take equal rights for granted, but for most of US history, we didn't even have the right to vote.

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

How's bout ... first woman with an actual chance of winning?

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

Yay! I'm with her.

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

It's bittersweet for me. Happy to see a woman as a presidential nominee, but sad that it's not someone that I admire & respect.

Frankly, I agree.
But I'll vote for her though because Rump is worse.

Honestly I think all politicians are corrupt.
IMO she gets extra criticism because she's a woman.

Women are 'supposed' to be X, Y, and Z.
Good ol misogyny.

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

So any woman will do?

I do not see that as any kind of achievement.

Re: First female presidential nominee for major political pa

^and I agree that probably all politicians are corrupt, but that doesn't make me feel any better about her. I suppose it's possible that she might get extra criticism simply because she's a woman, but it's also possible that she gets extra votes for that very same reason (simply because she's a woman). Either way, I won't be voting for her (I won't be voting for Trump either).

It has been so uplifting to hear sensible speeches from people of genuine substance at this convention.

I disagree, and believe it has little to do with gender and EVERYTHING to do with her ethics, morals, and trust. And I know many men and women who feel the same way about Kills - that she is lacking in all three ... and THAT (not her gender) is why they don't like her, won't support her, and sure as heck won't vote for her. SHE is the one who keeps tauting her gender; seriously, no one else cares!

I'm not going to say that there aren't some people who are sexist, just like I wouldn't say racism doesn't exist. But I do feel and believe that both 'cards' get waved around largely due to the media pushing that agenda on behalf of the left far more than it really exists in modern, everyday life. And a lot of people just continue to puppeteer what they hear/read IN the media to keep pushing overblown agendas.

I'm happy that my daughter is growing up in a world that is ever-changing and evolving to be inclusive rather than exclusive.

momhappy please read this before you decide to sit out or vote 3rd party. The decision has been very hard for me.

It has been a pleasure. The highlights for me personally have been Cory Booker, Michelle Obama, and Bill Clinton, but there has truly been a plethora of great speakers/speeches. It's been good to see the party unifying as they have - the difference from day one to day three (even day two!) is palpable - and the emphasis at the convention on inclusion and equality for all makes me hopeful.

And as far as HRC goes, it was definitely an emotional moment for me as I watched her officially become the first female nominee. My children, two boys ages 8 and 11, were very excited as well. They are old enough to understand what's happening (as well as any child can, anyway) and they've shown a lot of interest in this election.

Yes, I've already read that, but thanks for sharing. The decision was very difficult for me too, but I've come to terms with it because it's the right decision for me.

Ruby, what so bothers you about her.. I don't mean 'she lies' Trump lies, Kennedy liked, but what makes you think she is any worse than any other candidate (man).. I would love to read the reasons why people can't respect her.. by that I mean people that I respect and most if not all posters here are intelligent, well read, lover of Diamonds!!!! glitter... I digressed... truly I mean in the spirit of knowledge I would enjoy not a Fox view, or Briebart etc, but a real person. thanks if you are willing.

peace.
