Debby, thank you for sharing your story. I''m so glad you got back into art! You have such amazing talent, and it would be a horrible shame to let that go to waste! We''d love to see more of your work, if you feel like sharing!

And I just have to ask, is that you in your avatar? If so, I can''t believe you''re over 40!!!

Thanks Miss Irish! Well, that picture was taken when I was 39

I''m glad I got back into it, too. I totally feel like sharing, thanks for asking.

This is a little study of some tomato dudes. It''s acrylic on canvas about 12" by 20"

And the tomatoes are beautiful!!! Normally, I can''t stand tomatoes, but I love those tomatoes!

Beautiful! The painting of the row boat has a Gauguin quality to it. Perhaps it''s the use of color. I always loved art, but could not create it for the life of me, so I settled for studyiing art history. Have you been watching the new reality show on Bravo? It''s called Work of Art....I absolutely love it!

OMG, I wish I could, but I can''t get it here in Holland. The Bravo website won''t let me see it outside of the States. But when I get back in a month, I''m gonna watch the heck out of it! I could never do what they do. I''m good at what I''m good at, but I''m limited at random creativity.

I can''t believe I haven''t looked in here yet! Your work is fantastic!!! Makes me want to draw again.

thanks for sharing your art with us!you are talented and i would love to see more of your work posted!

It''s wonderful to see your some of your pieces. Please keep us updated on how the Exhibition goes.

Thanks so much for all your support guys. I love showing my work... hope I'm not going overboard!

Anyway, one of the things I super love to do is live portraits. It's sorta a weird zen thing, because it's almost like I have to think backwards in order to get the likeness. I'll try to explain. Normally, one thinks a likeness comes from the little things like the tilt of the eye or the bump on the nose, but if you only focus on the little things, the drawing, at best, becomes a characture. To really get a likeness, first you've got to know your anatomy really well. Our eyes instantly pick up if something in the bone or muscle structure is wrong, even if we don't explicitly realize it. So even if you have all the details right, it will look weird if the cheek bone, for instance, is off. (I like to say it's gotta look "human" before it can look "someone"

Here's a picture of a model I had a few weeks ago and next post I'll show the drawing.

Here''s the drawing. 1 and 1/2 hours with a 30 minute pause at an hour. Pencil on paper.

Here''s another one...

And here''s the drawing... same time and pencil

I don't know if nude art butts are allowed on the forum, so maybe this'll be pulled.... but it's not obscene or anything.

I drew this last night. Every once in awhile, my art group gets a nude model and this one is great. On Thursday nights we get together and do a series of 15 minute poses. After a couple of years, my internal clock is really great and I always feel like I have plenty of time.

I drew this with a kind of hybrid black chalk/charcoal/pencil thing called Creta color. It comes in sticks and you use a holder. I love it. You get the nice rich darks of charcoal with a little more control and a lot less mess.

Can you tell I'm heavily influenced by the impressionists? I love me 1870 - 1890 something fierce

Miss Debby

You are truly gifted. I love your drawings. I am, for the most part attracted to anything black and white! These are exceptional!

I kinda felt like that might be the case after I saw your Boat picture. I don''t know much about art, but it made me think of Monet (and I''ve never seen a Monet that I didn''t love)!

Susi, is that your new AVC in your avatar? It is gorgeous. What a beauty. Black and white can be just so satisfying. Thanks for your kind remarks

Hey, Irishgirl, yeah I love them. It's like this perfect combo of life and accuracy. I don't like making photo-realistic work, because its just tedious and hey, we have cameras for that. I like the subject to have movement in it. I love Monet and Manet. I was at the Van Gogh museum recently and man, he has some work that is just exquisite. Sunflowers is mind blowing.

Miss Debby,

That my old (lol) RB solitaire. Pics coming hopefully tomorrow!!!

OMG!!!! How exciting!!!!!! Yeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

You really do have an incredible talent debby. I''m so glad you''re enjoying it, and please as much as you''d like with us!

I love Honk!
Quite recently there was a thread where people posted the wierd objects in their homes and I thought then how wonderful it would be if we had a thread devoted to all the paintings and other works of art all the PSers have.
Good luck with your exhibition.

Beautiful pieces!! You are so talented!!

There is something impressionistic about your pictures!

Wow you''re very talented.

Debby :)

Your drawings are magnificent!!! I love the duck one hehe... Silliness is a nice thing!! :)

Thanks so much guys. Well, for the past few days I''ve been going crazy... sometimes thinking Honk! is done, then messing with it a little more, then stopping, then messing and so on. There was something bugging me about the main goose, then I realized that his eye was a little bit too small. And that I wanted his head to be really 3D. So I worked on it a little more. I let it dry and have the varnish drying on it right now. ugh. I never feel satisfied. But I have to stop because I want it in the show.

Anyway, I found this other site, a forum/gallery for artists. It''s really cool but makes me a little depressed. I surfed through the paintings and drawings, and was feeling decently self-satisfied. But then I surfed through the digital art and man, it''s so good, so up to the minute, and well... so marketable. It made me depressed cause I feel like what I do is such a old fashioned throwback niche thing. Whereas the digital artists can easily manipulate and save and print their work, and it''s exciting and hip. Ugh. Makes me feel OLD

Anywho, thanks for letting me vent. I guess I better dwell on the zen of Popeye: I yams what I yams...

Ohhhh, Debby, NOOOOO!!! Not at all! In fact, I think what you do is much more "real" art, for lack of a better word. Correct me if I''m wrong, but I think the computer does most of the work in digital art, correct? So anyone who knows how to make the computer do what they want can achieve the result they''re looking for. What you have is TALENT, girl!
