there''s really no point to this post except to vent that i''m feeling particularly antsy the last few days. right now i''m just so ready for school to be over with and for stefan and i to start our life together that i''m mentally skipping over the wedding all together and going straight to the part where we move out of our town and on to somewhere new. i''m spending too much time researching new places to live and plotting road trips we''ll probably never take to visit them. i''m feeling very much stuck because, well, i am right now and it just magnifies every other negative feeling i''m having.

i know that i should be enjoying the journey and usually i do, but right now i''m over school, i''m over this town, i''m over wedding planning. i''m craving some intersting-ness in my life, and this is just not cutting it. i just need something new. there are only four and a half weeks left of school until our break - hopefully this will provide a natural boundary in phases in my life so that some sort of renewal takes place.

i guess right now all i can do is dream of exotic places.....like minneapolis.
sigh.

Wow Mimzy I am totally with you!

I''m doing the same thing. We are getting married in 65 days but all I can think about is buying a house and having kids. We are also looking into moving so that we can get a house and start our family. I am feeling really impatient right now and I want to fast-forward to that part of our lives. I am a nanny now, so every day I am reminded of how I just want my own kids. Fiancee is telling me that we should be appreciating this time in our lives when we can be selfish, but I am just ready for the next step. But then again I have been with FI for 9 years! I''m ready for something new.

Anyway, I''d better get refocused on getting married soon because I have sooo much to do before 9/9!

Why not take a quick trip somewhere you''ve never been? Look on airfarewatchdog, and pick somewhere that has cheap flights, and just go! I''ve always got itchy feet and a serious case of wanderlust, so I know how you feel, but whenever I can, I just act on it. Go go go! Have an adventure! Enjoy!

If you can, I''d totally do this, or even just find somewhere to do a day-trip to that you haven''t been. Only real way to get rid of that awful ''stuck'' feeling is to get yourself unstuck.

If you can''t afford to get away, either time-wise or money-wise, something that sometimes helps me to is do a countdown of the last times I''m going to have to do things. I''m sort of in the same position as you now--totally ready for school to be over, my thesis especially to be over, to get out of this awful city and start my life with J (we aren''t getting married but instead are moving from long-distance to just normal, after 3.5+ years). It''s helped me focus on the progress I''ve been making to that turning point, to say, "Last time I''ll ever have to visit the finance office!" or "Last time I''ll ever work in the library!" Even a few weeks out (I leave on Friday, so I''m almost there), there were some ''last time ever'' things and, for me, anyway, they helped get me through a bit easier.

I hope you find something that works for you, my dear.

oh how i wish i could! unfortunately this summer wasn''t covered by our financial aid and we had a $5k tuition bomb dropped on us, so we''re using all the money we can scrimp together for that and to save for the wedding

we are trying to plan a camping trip, but even gas to get to where we want to go would be like over $100. there''s a *chance* we might be able to go to san diego in august to visit his sister, so that would be nice, but there''s the chance that he''ll just go. but my fingers are still crossed!

yay for you for being almost there gwen! i''m so excited for you!

i (along with the rest of my grad class) already employ this "last time" tactic - today was the sixth to last day that we''ll see these particular clients in this particular time slot haha. unfortunately, we''ve still got another semester and then our internship semester, so even when this one is over, i''m not really *going* anywhere, nothing is really *changing*, if you know what i mean? we''re going to be stuck here for at least another ten months, which really isn''t all that long...but it feels like it day to day.

i''m just being difficult haha. thanks for the suggestions girls!

Oh, yeah, I totally know what you mean. In the scheme of things, ten months will go by in a flash, but when you feel like you're trudging through day by day, it does seem to drag on..and on. When you do your internship, do you have a say in where that will be? Just wondering if you'd be able to change things up at least a bit in the near future to have some new places to explore (even if they aren't all that exotic).

Do you have any time where you could do something different to help break the monotony? Maybe, in preparation for doing some travels, you could take a foreign language class or something? I know maybe it's not *that* exciting since you aren't getting out of town and making big changes (and since I know you're currently in school, maybe another class is the *last* thing you want), but it could maybe help add some spice to life?

Other than that, if you're a reader, maybe pick up some travel books from your library (I love living vicariously through Bill Bryson) and use them to tide you over for a while?

Sorry, darlin', wish I could just pop you and Stefan on a plane for a refreshing vacation! Are you planning on going on a honeymoon?

Sorry, darlin'', wish I could just pop you and Stefan on a plane for a refreshing vacation! Are you planning on going on a honeymoon?

i do have a say in my internship! we considered me trying to get one in wisconsin, but it was a little more risky than we wanted - stefan would HAVE to get a job there and be able to start the third week in january for it to work because i won''t be able to work, and we just weren''t comfortable picking up and moving when neither of us had a job secured. plus, it would be within a week of our wedding/honeymoon, and logistically (and emotionally!)it would be too much.

i''ve been thinking about what i could do to break up the monotony like you suggested. classes are totally out - too much $$$ and nooo scheduleable time. i''ve tried to spent more time sewing, but it also costs $$, even if it is just for the fabric. i DO spend a ridiculous amount of time on google maps planning road trips though! and researching camp sites.

for now i am going to have to rely on books it looks like! and we are planning a honeymoon! we ended up being able to do belize after all!

i''ve been eyeing some travel books on amazon, but again the $$ so it looks like i am going to have to steal stefans library card (too many late fines on mine....i''m not a good person) and take a bike ride over there!

thanks gwen. we''d definitely like that! if in however many years it takes us to pay off our school debt and are able to travel and you''re still in the UK we''ll look you up!

Yeah, that would be a whole lot going on. I think it''s smart (although not as exciting) to wait. Maybe you guys could look into moving in the near future but not *really* soon, like maybe after you''ve been married for 6 months or a year?

I really, honestly get where you''re coming from with that antsy "gotta get out of here and do something/be somewhere different!" That''s how I ended up going to grad school in another country. And you want to know the nuttiest thing? Right now, all I want is the comfort and stability that you and Stefan have! I''ve had enough adventure for a while; it''s too stressful.

Hahaha, oh my gosh, I do the same thing with Google Maps! I poke around for new places to see, then immediately head to Google Maps to see how far away it is (and how complicated the route is) and then try to work out how much gas will cost. Yeah, it''s frustrating how much little odds and ends add up financially, because you feel like you have basically no freedom to do anything fun!

Oooh, Belize will be amazing!!!! That is *SO* exciting! I know almost nothing about Belize so I might have to start researching it myself (I love finding new places to add to my infinite travel list). Oh and about the travel books--if you haven''t done any Bill Bryson yet, I highly recommend ''In a Sunburned Country'' which is about Australia, although lots of other folks love ''A Walk In the Woods'' the best, about hiking on the Appalachian Trail. They''re narratives, not tour books, and are hilarious.

thanks gwen. we''d definitely like that! if in however many years it takes us to pay off our school debt and are able to travel and you''re still in the UK we''ll look you up!
Hahah, sounds like a plan, sweetie.
