My first thought as well. It seems to be mentioned a few times on this thread. Its really great.

Some not already mentioned:

Sense and Sensibility
The Fabulous Baker Boys
Casablanca
Out of Africa

I totally agree with the previous mentions of The Big Chill ''cuz I "Ain''t Too Proud to Beg" and playing "You Can''t Always Get What You Want" as the processional for a funeral is wonderfully dark humor.

The Pianist

The Piano

O Brother Where Art Thou? (Bluegrass at it''s finest. Beautiful soundtrack!)

Michael Nyman, the composer of The Piano score, listened to Holly Hunter playing piano and once he had assessed her ability then composed the pieces that were to be performed by her in the movie . She was great in that movie but it''s also very interesting to hear Michael Nyman himself performing The Piano Suite. It''s quite a different kind of performance.

My favourites
The Colour Purple - a wonderful mixture of music styles
Cold Mountain - The pairing of the unaccompanied choral piece and the battle scene is a stroke of brilliance.
The seemingly simple soundtrack to Trip to Bountiful - my favourite movie. Geraldine Paige we miss you!

West Side Story
Schindler''s List
Purple Rain
Spartacus
The Mission
Gladiator

Already mentioned...

American Beauty
O'' Brother
The Piano
Pulp Fiction

Out of Africa was one of my favorites; I deliberatly went out looking for the soundtrack after seeing the film. The Big Chill may be the perfect soundtrack for anyone who grew up in the 1960s; no bad songs there at all!

I don''t tend to want soundtracks to musicals. I prefer the compilations of music chosen to set the mood of a film. Some of the best examples might be the music from Good Morning Vietnam, Sleepless in Seattle,and When Harry Met Sally - - just to name a few.

ditto!

and Purple Rain.

Father of the Bride
The Wedding Date
You''ve Got Mail
My Best Friend''s Wedding
And most movie musicals.

The body guard with Whitney Houston.
the mission
forest gump
fiddler on the roof
The patriot(really good!)
The diamond necklace affair
chariots of fire
the pink panther
the breakfast club
pretty in pink
funny girl
glory

I forgot the color purple...excellant.

Philadelphia
Until the End of the World
Man of La Mancha

I love Gladiator, Romeo and Juliet, and Bram Stoker''s Dracula.

Moulin Rouge
Don''t laugh: I love Disney musicals like "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Alladin" and "The Lion King".

I have many:
Black Beauty
Forrest Gump
Oh Brother Where Art Thou
Chicago
Braveheart
Lord of the Rings (fantastic soundtracks)
Harry Potter (the most recent has a beautiful harp sequence)
Little Women
Almost Famous
Lords of Dogtown
Top Gun
The Land Before Time
The Last Unicorn
The Lion King
The Jungle Book
The Little Mermaid
The Boon-Dock Saints
The Notebook

Black beauty is my all time favorite. The only place I''ve found it is on youtube

I only listen to four movie soundtracks:
- Dirty Dancing
- City of Angels
- Forrest Gump
- When Harry Met Sally

I've meant to get the soundtracks for Meet Joe Black and Elizabethtown, as both seemed promising when I watched the movies. But I've never acted on either, so I don't really know if they're any good!

ETA: I forgot my favorite! The Big Chill. I listen to this one more than any other, but that's probably just because my favorite song is on it.

The Bodyguard

* Forrest Gump
* Knocked Up
* Nightmare Before Christmas (they have an anniversary edition that has the songs redone by popular artists)
* Little Mermaid
* Juno (Absolutely LOVE this soundtrack. If we hadn''t had "Kiss the Girl" from the Little Mermaid as our first dance song it would have been a song from this album)
* Garden State
* 50 First Dates
* Grease (the movie)
* The Wedding Singer
* Notting Hill

For instrumentals, I like the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series. Also can''t beat good ol'' Star Wars. Titanic wasn''t bad either.

For popular music, I like the Love Actually soundtrack.

Yes Witness, that is beautiful!

Anyone see The Cook the Thief His Wife and her Lover? The final scene when she (Helen Mirren) presents an elaborate feast to her husband. I won''t go into the details but the music that accompanies this very amazing scene is a requiem written by Micheal Nyman for another real-life occasion and used again in this film. No one else I have ever met likes it, but I think it''s incredible. Beautiful, ugly, stirring and so perfect for this scene. If you haven''t yet seen this movie.... watch it if you dare.
