Favorite fruit that has to be FRESH?

LYCHEE!

Sorry the canned stuff is too syrupy and sweet. I guess same thing goes for peaches.

I actually like dried apples and freeze dried strawberries. :lickout:

I bought a dehydrator last year so that I could make dehydrated apples and homemade raisins. The only challenge there is keeping self control and not eating them all before they are ready to store for measured snacks!

When I was stationed in a SE Asia country I developed a taste for mangoes, both fresh and dried.
Later I noticed the dried ones had preservative and lots of sugar so I stopped buying them.

Years later I noticed Costco sold Kirkland brand organic ones with no sugar or preservatives.
The ingredient list had one ingredient, organic mango - that's my kind of ingredient list.

You have to select your bag carefully as some are super hard, dry and tough - but you can feel, through the plastic bag, for the soft ones.
Very addicting but healthy, and better than eating junk food.
For fresh mango, my favorite variety is pictured below.
Early July they cost 3 for a dollar at my local Mexican grocer.
In late July they drop down to 4 for a dollar and are super sweet and flavorful, so I pig out!

One of my favorites! If I can keep them in the house long enough, I want to try dehydrating some of these for healthy snacks.

Any kind of berries. Right now the raspberries are popping up on my bush outside, it’s a race to get to them before the birds or woodchucks!

Birds are serious about their berries
I need to get our bird netting out and see if that helps us keep some berries for us this year. The birds usually let us have 5-6 blueberries each year. I don't mind sharing, but they are definitely eating more than their share! (Besides, they have a whole huge area of salmonberries, blackberries, huckleberries, and more...)

Anybody else like munching on a fresh stalk of rhubarb ?

ALL fruits. I've never had frozen fruit until I came to the USA. Canned is just urgh.

Yes… we don’t really get fresh fruits in Singapore. Everything is imported. I mean not like canned fruits standard but not as fresh as newly plucked off the tree/bush type of fresh.

So in the past when I traveled to places where fruits are really fresh, I was always delighted by the taste, be it cherries, apples, peaches or any other fruits.

Apples, but you can not get great apples anymore anywhere unless you can find a very old grove.
If you can pick any apple without a lift then its not a good tree.
The newer grafted short trees do not have enough of a leaf to apple ratio to make them like they used to be.
Red Delicious in particular has really suffered in comparison.

I love raspberries! Preferably still warm from the sun not put in the fridge with cream & sugar. Yum!

I have never tried it raw! My grandparents have a bunch growing so I am used to using it in desserts and even chicken, but have never tried without cooking. Now I am curious...

You have to try !! :appl: :appl: :appl:  :appl: :appl: :appl:
Its sour but its crisp and juicy
Beat to eat out in the garden so
you can spit out all the fibre !

Years ago we bought a juicer -
rhubarb was so disappointing
Not the juice - because it was exquisite (the mouthfull we managed to get)
But the stringiness would have broken the juicer in no time

Havn't yet tried in it the magic bullet

I checked our rhubarb just before
As its pretty much snoozing for the winter (it doesn't get frost where it lives) its few small leaves did remind be to give in some compost in the next few weeks

Ranier cherries. They are my favorite. I don't eat a lot of fruit but I eat quite a bit of these every summer.

So good! That was the one cherry tree DH wanted planted. I couldn't disagree because they are so amazing. Hoping they grow as well here as they do east of the mountains!
