Is anyone using (or used) false lashes for the wedding? I tried out a strip, but it was just way too fake looking. I have fairly long lashes already, but I think my eyes are my best feature and I wanted to play them up. I keep looking at the individual ones, but it looks like it may be more trouble than its worth to put on/take off (I am doing my own make up). Has anyone used these?

Thanks!

Honestly, I've used false lashes a million times for performances and no matter what kind I got (as far as the strips go), they always looked fake. If you really want to try them, I would recommend getting the individual pieces so you can trim and space them for a more realistic look. I've never used this type though so I can't give too much advice on them. If you do decide to go with false lashes, make sure that you practice applying them a bunch before your wedding.

They shouldn't take long to take off... you just pop them off. Also, mascara on them can be tragic so be careful!

I've worn them a lot on special occasions, once you get the hang of it they are very easy to apply, there are just a couple of tricks to look out for. When choosing the right set, remember what looks 'natural' in the box will look a lot bigger on your lashes, so be very conservative and start with the smallest set you can find. I think lashes that are more 'sparse' look better. You can always trim them, I use a pair of nail scissors, cutting sideways into the length, to thin them out a little if needed. Also a 'half set' can often fit better - these are meant to only fit the outside half of your eyelid, but I find these cover 2/3 of my eyelid, which is what you want - you don't want them to stretch to the inside corner of your eye, you will never get it glued down to look natural. Put mascara on and curl your lashes before applying the falsies, it will help them blend in but don't try to put mascara on the falsies. I don't even use tweezers, just my fingers to fit them on, then get a toothpick or a q-tip stick to position and push the corners down and hold them in place for a few seconds while the glue takes. They peel off quite easily, and you can reuse them lots of times.

You want something like this:

Just ask if you have any other questions!

Hi Boots: I tried the false lashes for my wedding and had to go the morning of and get them REMOVED. My eyes freaked out. It felt like I had little balls of sand rubbing my eyes every time I blinked.

They were the individual lashes that are glued on one by one. They looked lovey BUT were a big $150 mistake for me. I could see them when I looked straight ahead, which was annoying. AND THEY HURT. I think they may have been to heavy for my real lashes and they got very sore to touch and just to blink. The tech told me to try and get used to them but I had to have them removed the day of the wedding because I didn''t want to be obsessing over how much they hurt during our wedding day.

You may or may not react to them the way I did. I"m usually okay with things on, in, or around my eyes. I can touch them and I had lasik and wore hard and soft contacts before lasik. So my eyes are not usually sensitive to ANYTHING.

My advice: If you want to try the individual lashes that are glued on, try them a couple weeks before the wedding. Oh, and you CAN NOT remove them, you have to go back and PAY to have them removed.

My sister in law wears the cheapy glue on lash strips that you can buy at Target or Walmart and she loves them.

Good luck and I hope my experience gives you some insight!

The makeup artist that I used uses false lashes on every one of her brides - including the mothers and bridesmaids that she does also - I wear false eyelashes on a regular basis - mainly for going out or fun parties - i love the way they make your eyes POP!

The lashes she used were from MAC - they looked very natural - they didn''t give my lashes too much length, but mainly made them fuller and thicker - they looked beautiful and really made my eyes stand out! My mom even loved them on her!! She looked fabulous!

I would suggest going to MAC and having them show you different kinds of lashes - i find the individual ones way too hard to put on correctly - the strip is just easier (for me)...but practice practice practice! It took me quite a few tries to get them right!

If you do get the strips, make sure you trim the lashes first - the length is always way too long for my small eyes, so i always have to nip the edges off to make them fit!

I love the way false lashes make your eyes pop. Strips always look unnatural to me. Individual lashes applied mostly to the outer portion of the eye looks the most natural.

Make sure that once you have the lashes on you apply the rest of your make up to get the full effect as this can make a difference.

I am wondering if the MAC counter will show you how to apply the lashes? There is a technique to it. LOL.

Individual lashes are very hard to self-apply. You need to get the individual lash right down on the natural lash root in order to hide the "bulb" and make them look natural, so often times the angle needed to achieve this is very hard for someone to do to themself.

I personally recommend using a thinner strip, prehaps cut from the iris out to highlight the longer, end lashes. But, on your wedding day I'd forgo using indies on your own.

Also, a good trick to make them stick, and last longer...After applying the disposable lashes like you always would, using a disposable mascara wand, put the lash glue in a small puddle and coat the want like you would with mascara. Lightly apply the glue to the underside of your lashes, like you would mascara. Becareful not over-apply or your will become a goopy, gluey mess. You lashes will look white...and that okay....it dries clear. Becareful not to blink until the glue has dried. Do this before applying the rest of your eye makeup. Once dried, you can apply mascara worry free.

Thanks for everyones advice!

Unfortunately my wedding is this weekend, so maybe that doesnt leave enough time for me to practice..but I will check it out!

Hiya Bootsiekin!

I used individual false lashes at my wedding. I also did my own makeup, but after my hair was done, I popped into shu uemura and they applied them for me. They charge $20, plus the cost of lashes $16. It was the best $36 I''ve ever spent!! If there is none near you, I know MAC also applies lashes for you, it may be free of charge with purchase of lashes. Also, I know some makeup counters will apply them for you. You can also see if you can hire a mua to apply them for you the day of.

I''d recommend trying on different styles beforehand. I had 4 makeup trials, and many of the lashes they used were REALLY unnatural. The shu uemuras worked out exceptionally well.

As for individually glued lashes - my moh got them a month before the wedding, and they worked out great for her. Her eyes were irratated for 2 days, but after the initial discomfort, were fine. She just couldn''t apply mascara (no need anyways), and couldn''t really get them wet. All the muas I went to discouraged their use, but they worked well with her.

Good Luck, hope you find something that works for you!

Wow, I''m glad everyone has had some good experiences with the individual lashes! Maybe the girl who put mine on was just a dud :-(.

Best of luck at your wedding Boots!

I''ve had two make up trials and the lashes that the MUAs used looked ridiculous on me. (I''m asian with short, straight eye-lashes). When I had b-pics taken the MUA used invidiual lashes and they looked great/more natural.
