FI is trying to close today on an apartment for us in NYC. I''m looking in Brooklyn but it''s still tough!


There''s a 950/month 1 br we have our eye on, so cross your fingers. It''s between Bed-Stuy and Park Slope---pretty sketchy, but no more so than West Philly where I went to school.

Hehe--exciting yes, but the very real possibility of mugging is also a bit unnerving. FI found a map of all the NYC homicides 2002-2004 though and found that the big gang related cluster was 15 blocks south of the direction I would walk home.

This is why God invented renters insurance!

Buuuutttt the nicer neighbohoods are at LEAST 1300/month which over 12 months is 4200 more dollars/year.

Well...

He signed the lease and left it with her to decide and run a credit check. She said she''d call the other interested tenant, decide, and let us know today.

Well, no phone call today. I''m guessing that means we didn''t get it, but I guess maybe she could have just forgotten.

We''ll see. He''s going to call her again tommorrow and if no answer cancel the check.

Man, I had kind of gotten used to the idea that I might not be homeless with 2 cats in August.
