Interesting indeed. Although no big newsflash when you think about it. Heck, look at what a prolonged drought did to US migration patterns during The Dust Bowl period.

And, of course, the Mongol invasion started with drought and exhaustion of pastures in the areas where they used to live. So being nomads, they conquered vast territories in search of food for their horses.
