Has anyone seen this? We have a few friends who got "engagement tattoos" instead of rings and know one couple that had band style tattoos done around their wedding ring finger instead of traditional metal bands.
Not our thing...though DH does have my name tattooed on his back w/ a Celtic eternity symbol...

I have tattoos but I wouldn''t have one on my finger. I just think I would regret it when I am older.

I remember seeing this photo in celebrity bling and thinking the tattoo ruined the look of the ring

Yep!

I''ve seen this style as well. I have friends who have done the tattoo wedding bands, and love it. They don''t like wearing rings, but used the tattoo as a symbol of their commitment. So, if thats your style, then go for it! I have a couple tattoos, but would opt for the traditional ring

Tattoo''s don''t sparkle like diamonds do!!!

I''ve actually seen these wedding ring tattoos years down the road. They seem to get really "smudged" looking. My tattooist told me that hands and feet exfoliate differently than the rest of your body, so these tattoos can''t be expected to look good for more than 5-10 years. DH looked into getting one when he could no longer wear his ring at work, and decided against it.

FF has said that if he can''t stand wearing his wedding band that he''ll get one tattooed onto his finger. He has this idea that he''s going to need to get it cut off, that his finger will swell and he can''t get it off or something and it totally freaks him out. A totally irrational fear...

Whatever.

i have ''10-4'' tattooed in my mouth. we''ll be married on october 4th.

i should also add that it wasn''t in place of a ring. my finger still sparkles.

I would never get a tattoo of my hubby''s name, or as a symbol of our marriage... I think it is bad luck. I love him truly, but I think it would curse me and something horrible would happen and I would have to live with that tattoo on me forever. Only names that go on me would be my children.

Not a fan at all!

I''ll never get a tattoo but I''m not superstitious about my marriage...I know it''ll last because of love and working at it, and bad luck won''t wreck it. If I was going to get a tattoo, though, it''d be my son''s name.

All I know is if I got a tattoo, "ring" or not, he''d probably divorce me.

Women with tattoos make his face tighten up juuuust a bit.

I wouldn''t do it myself. I''m not from the tattoo generation, and I don''t like anything enough to wear it all the time, not even ideal cut diamonds, certainly not a tattoo. I like the option of not wearing something.

My SIL has a tatoo, instead of a wedding ring. I think it looks hideous, just my opinion. It has my daughters name on it.

I am not against tattoos, I love them but on the fingers? Kinda makes me think of all those LOVE and HATE jail tats you would see on OZ. Most marriages end in divorce right? At least that is the trend in the U.S.

Tattoos are common place in my culture as well as my honey''s so there is no real strong emotion evoked by seeing other peoples tats. To each their own

Oh my, never!

I have a few bits pierced, but I know I can take them out when I''m old & wrinkly And I''m not stuck with them forever.

I hate the way tattoos degrade with age (theirs not ours!) and lose the crisp definition they have when new.

I would never love any design enought to commit to having it permanently displayed on my body... particularly on my finger.

I saw a girl in tears once, trying on wedding dresses, because of her tattoo on her shoulder. She said it was the only time she''d ever regretted having it done.. but wow, what a time to have to regret it.

My sister-in-law has her son''s names tattooed on the inside of each wrist. I think it looks awful, and the absolute height of ''chav chic''. My FI & I joke and say we can just imagine her fronting up to someone in a fight & preparing to take a swing at someone, and saying, "Which one do you want first? Fred or Barney*?"

*names have been changed!

What are the figures on divorce now? Anybody know? It used to be 50%, from what I remember. More now?

Ditto!

Rich, I want to think it''s down some now, but I have no statistics to back it up.

That''s actually not a correct figure...it''s less than half. The problem is that the quoted number comes from number of marriages in a year recorded vs. number of divorces recorded. Many people marry and divorce several times which skews the statistics.

Ahhh, that''s nice to know.

Definitely the traditional engagement ring and wedding band for me.
For me personally that''s just my style, but if a tattoo around your finger means more to you, then I''m not one to judge that...some people can pull that off...I''m definitely not one of them

I will say that someone I know has the initials of her husband and their wedding date on the inside of her wedding finger (ie. palm side up)...She has an engagement ring and two bands that are wide and they cover it...she said that instead of engraving their wedding bands they decided to get the tattoo...He has her initials and date on his finger too. You would never know it''s there unless they showed you, it''s something that''s very personal and special to them which I can admire.

Aw, that''s sweet!

DH and I considered getting our wedding bands tattooed on. I already have three tattoos and he has one, so it wouldn''t be a huge deal or out of the ordinary for us. DH is an electrician, so he technically isn''t supposed to wear his wedding band at work, although he does anyway. Tattooing his wedding band on would eliminate that problem for him. We haven''t gotten it done yet, and I''m not entirely sure that we ever will. But, if we do, I would definitely want it to be thin enough that it could be covered with our rings!

I would much rather have a ring with some bling. I''m not a big tattoo fan. Too permanent.

I have quite a few tattoos (all very well hidden). However I would never get my finger inked. Even my tattoos artist refuse to do them, he say they look bad after a few years and have a higher rate of infection due to the fact they are on you hand (harder to keep clean while the skin is healing).

I met a couple that did the tattoos instead of rings. They are no longer together. They still have the tattoos...
