Embarassing Jewelery Store moments

Today i went shopping for the first time as an somewhat informed consumer. All went well until i asked about the clarity on the melee diamonds and was informed that they don't grade them if they are under 0.1 carats. On the other hand i was asked if i was in the jewelry business

so overall i think it went well.

So just wondering if anyone else has had any 'doh' moments when buying jewelry.

I''m not sure if this counts, but I think I completely grossed out the clerk in a mall store once when I went in to get my finger sized for my engagement ring. It made me so nervous my hands instantly got clammy and when he took my hand to place the measurement sizer on it he kind of flinched a little and pushed the sizer on and said "yep 5.5!" and dropped my hand like a hot potato.

It was kind of embarassing because my sister was with me and she kept pushing me to look at rings while we were there, but I was like...urm no I think I''d rather go now.

Probably all the time but I soon forget about them, I''m still probably more educated going in there then most.

I''m however, scared of pronouncing something wrong and sounding like an idiot. I say "rub over seting" instead of bezel because I don''t know if jewlers here use the term bezel and will look at me funny if I say it, also if it''s prouounced "bee-zil" or "bez-il". I also avoid "loupe" because I don''t know if it''s pronounced "loop" or some other way and how to say the names for the differnt parts of the diamond.
Silly, I know, but I don''t want them to think I don''t know what I''m talking about and talk down to me or try to take advantage.
