is any one planning on eloping to europe (italy) or has done so that has any advice?
i have found a few websites and such with packages, but i dont know which is the best.
anybody know of a good airline to find cheap flights!?
I did some research on this and a great book to get is called "Let''s Elope" by Scott Shaw and Lynn Beahan. Lots of great tips and specific mentions of protocol and how to plan for specific destinations, like Italy for example. I thought Italy would be a fabulous elopement destination but IIRC, you have to do alot of legal paperwork there and be there a certain amount of days, and have documents translated into Italian, back into English...I remember thinking it was overwhelming. But get the book and check it out. There are also wedding planning companies that can help out with those arrangements.
My parents have some friends who recently got married in Italy (not from there) and they had to go through a tonne of paperwork. But what's some paperwork? Sure it's a hassle, but it's forever! Do it if it's what you want!
One more thing. In Italy, you MUST be married at the city hall before you can have a church wedding (or synagogue or whatever). However, if you do this in, e.g., Rome, it means you get married in a Palace on the Capitoline Hill, now the city hall, but location of just about everything important in western antiquity (it's where the Roman Senate used to meet). How cool, I ask you, is THAT?
Most city halls in Italy are like palaces, in fact.
In terms of airlines, check out orbitz and those kinds of sites. It's much cheaper if you go in, say, March or April. Then you can get tickets for about $600. And the weather in April is spectacular.
