So TJ and I are embarking on our first task as an engaged couple. The engagement pictures. We found a photographer that we really like and are actually considering for our wedding photographer. I figure the engagement pics will be a good test of the chemistry and his style. I have a few questions though. If you can believe it, I''ve never been in a pro-shoot, well other than as a child at JC Penny''s photo studio. I didn''t have Sr. pics taken in hs.

So.
1. what does one wear for engagement pictures?

2. Where should we have them taken? We live in RI so we have beaches, parks, apple orchards etc, all around. The only catch is that we want to get married at the shore so I don''t know if we should have them taken there since our wedding pics will be beach pics.

3. This photographer is charging $275 for a no time limit shoot with 4 x 6 prints and a DVD with the negatives. Does this seem like a decent deal?

Thanks in advance ladies and gents!

i saw this write up on what to wear that i thought was good.

How exciting!!!!

The photographer will probably tell you to not use any crazy prints, etc. I definitely do recommend changing at least once. Both of our outfits were very casual because we wanted to represent who we truly are!. Getting all dressed up would just not have been us :)

You can see our pictures here: e-pics are in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I asked the same question not so long ago and got great tips!: e-Pics this weekend! What do we wear!?

As for the place, I would go for something different than where your wedding will be. I''ve seen some pictures on streets that look amazing. Very laid back, but very artistic!.

I love this local phographer and he has some good e-pic sessions in his blog: http://www.bigfatknotblog.com/?cat=3
It may be good for ideas!!!

Hope that helps :))

As far as price is concerned, I'm not so sure on that one!. I would try to make some sort of deal with the photographer. If you end up using him for your wedding then he should credit back X amount.

In my case, the e-pics were free (included in the package) and my package was $1200! (e-pics, wedding day, coffee table album, $150 in prints and CDs with all the edited pictures from both sessions!!!). Yes, that was a steal but I went to the Art Institue and found a recent graduate. She's done a great job so far.

Anyway, most photographers I hear about include the e-pics in their packages. I would say $275 is fine, but then he/she will have to deduct that amount from your package. Before you ask for this, you may want to inquire about his current wedding packages (so he/she doesn't just add the $275 to one of the packages!). That way you make sure what the packages are BEFORE you ask for the $275 to be credited back to you.

Just a thought from super-budget bride ;) hehe
