eBay has such an awful reputation. I''m still tempted by the bargains frequently, and so far, I''ve been very lucky with my purchases, but I''m always leery of it ''cause, well, eBay.

We bought a sapphire and diamond pendant as an early holiday present for me on Sunday, and it arrived today. Unfortunately, it didn''t live up to its billing: the center stone was advertised as VS2, but with an eye-visible carbon inclusion and a feather right under the table, I''m voting closer to SI2, maybe even I1. So I e-mailed the company with a little trepidation ... and, lo and behold, they''re completely and utterly professional about it! They''re accepting the return with no muss, no fuss, and an apology, and mailing me a return label ASAP.

I like having my faith in humanity restored. Even, or perhaps especially, on eBay.*

*Disclaimer: anybody who might read this and think buying on eBay is a dandy idea: choose companies with clearly articulated return policies and excellent steady reviews! Just, y''know, in case I lead anybody into temptation, I feel it ought to be the right kind.
 
Lucky you on getting an easy return! I bought something several years back that wasn''t even close to advertised and after lots of emails and phone calls and some threats, finally, finally got a refund. And then they left me negative feedback that wasn''t even true. I got lots of emails from other dissatisfied customers (via ebay, so they were real) saying not to expect to ever get my money back. They were shocked that I was able to do it. The seller left ebay very shortly after.

I completely second checking and double checking a seller''s return policy and their history. I''ve had plenty of good experiences after the one bad one, so their are reputable sellers on Ebay.
