Ebay feedback, what would you do?

The item took three weeks to arrive because the seller did not include the country or postal code on the address  . And the main value part of the item, the diamond, was smaller than she said, 4.2mm not 5mm (though non-diamond sellers don't really understand that this matters). I kept it and am satisfied for the price I paid. But do I leave neutral feedback, mostly for the shipping? Or do I just ding the shipping rating a little?

Has she left you feedback yet? You got the ring and are satisfied with the price, so maybe just not leave feedback at all. Sometimes it's not worth it if, even if the transaction was a bit frustrating, if it means giving you negative feedback in retaliation. You may want to protect your 100% (if that is what you have) if you do a lot of ebay shopping.

Maybe I'm harsh, but if the seller stated 5mm and it was almost 1/5 smaller, I think that's an issue as well. Not taking the time to measure/including inaccurate info, not taking the time to make sure that the country or post code were on the package? Meh. I'd want to know about those things as a buyer.

ETA: I misread that it wasn't JUST the diamond. I guess I'd go the way of no feedback at all if it's not a jewelry specific ebay seller. Glad you like the ring! :)

I had something similar happen with our stone with it not being quite as advertised but still being happy with what we paid. I ended up giving her positive feedback and was honest in the individual ratings about the item not being as described. I said something in my comments like: "Item not as described, received partial refund when I asked for one." I kept it simply, I was overall satisfied with the transaction so I just marked down the individual categories (item not as described and poor communication) and was honest. I seriously considered giving her neutral feedback since her communication was completely unprofessional, but she would then have likely given me bad feedback in retaliation even though she had no reason to. Sometimes it just isn't worth it.

I would do neutral as it wasn't as described and less about the shipping failure.

"not as described but fair price for item rec'd"

"neutral"

i'd leave any reference re the mangled shipping address out of it as everyone has an off day......

yes, "ding" the shipping one notch....

The diamond was in a bezel, right? Most people (who are not jewelers!) can't even use a mm ruler, so I'd give them a pass on that part. To them, 4mm and 5mm is about the same, especially when it's bezel set.

if you're satisfied overall, I would say something along the lines of what MZ wrote.
and ding the shipping one notch.

but if i know it's a cheap ass deal and it isn't EXACTLY as they say (which i kind of always assume), i quite often give them a pass. most sellers are not as anal as we can be.

Yes, I am not particularly concerned about the diamond, she is not a jeweler and there was no information about the diamond other than "Sparkly diamond, around 5mm!" That's how you get deals, you risk that stuff.

I was more wondering about the shipping. I don't think the seller is a bad seller, and her communication was good. I told her about the issues and she apologised about the shipping and said in future if she has diamonds she will use calipers.

Anyways, I don't think it is going to cause future buyers to have bad outcomes if I leave positive feedback but maybe rate shipping as slow. I only have 6 feedbacks and can't risk a negative one ::)

Yeah, then just move on. People do make mistakes and you have to let some stuff slide. FWIW, I have around 430 feedback and I never leave negatives b/c I still fear someone will retaliate. Someone would have to seriously scam me for me to remark on the transaction.

ETA - oh, I did leave one neg feedback but that was a couple years ago. I listed something and then edited the listing and the person didn't read the edit I made and won the auction, got the item and then ran right to her computer and left me a negative. She never contacted me or anything and when I saw the negative, I immediately offered her a refund, but she ignored my emails, so I left her a negative (lol!). I think negatives make more sense not if a mistake was made but if there is lack of communication. That is what I left for my neg comment...that she was offered a refund but ignored that. Why complain about something re: an item then ignore the resolution the seller offers? Ugh. (and that was for a $16 face cream  )

Sellers are unable to leave negative feedback for buyers who pay within the specified time.

thinking becuase she is not a jeweler she things 4.2 is around 5mm to people- not diamond people though :)

I was in a similar situation before and elected not to leave feedback. I bought a pair of Hunter rainboots for $60 only to receive them and realize that they weren't genuine. It would have cost me $90 to return them (to China). I contacted the seller and they refunded me $30. The transaction wasn't what I had anticipated, but I was satisfied with the customer service and the outcome. Also, they had good reviews, I felt bad about the prospect of bursting the bubbles of people who were happy with their purchases, and no amount of stars would have accurately portrayed the situation, and so I decided not to leave a rating.

this changes everything. i'm betting you would do business with her again.

make absolutely no comment re shipping!

leave "positive"

wording: good communicator/would do business with again/good value for $/
or
smaller but good value for $/good communicator/would buy again

it seems she is an "uneducated" diamond seller, not dishonest. please do not give a notch down re shipping. she is obviously trying and learning. not all buyers are as obsessed with absolute accuracy re measurements as we are. give her a break and let it go.

Now this is important to know. I should read up more on how feedback works. It would seem silly and useless if buyers feared retribution.

MC Well now, I would not take it that far. If I had a serious issue and thought future buyers needed to know about it I would leave negative feedback.

It wasn't always this way, was it b/c I was able to leave feedback? I think the rules have changed.

Yeah, I know you wouldn't take it that far...the fact that you're wondering about it at all means you're not out to get that person. The person who left me the negative was a bit wacko, IMO. I was selling a travel-size face cream and listed it as such, then edited it to further emphasize the size it was...(like I'd sell a $70+ face cream for $16!) but she decided to take her bad day (or whatever) out on me. Another person once bought a nintendo game from me and got mad because she said she wanted an xbox version. It was clearly listed as a nintendo, I told her, again, never heard from her again. Sigh. She never left feedback or asked for a refund, which I offered.

I don't know when it changed but i'm glad it did. Now feedback is more honest. People were afraid to leave honest feedback just in case the seller neg'd them back.

It's difficult when you're the seller though. When a person doesn't respond to your emails where you're offering a refund and trying to make things right, that indicates a problematic buyer...as a SELLER I would want to know if a potential buyer is too fussy and trigger happy when it comes to leaving negatives b/c I then wouldn't want to do business with them. I guess it's not that big of a deal though as I don't sell on eBay for a living...just sell off random stuff we don't use anymore ;)
