Dust Please - Sister has Breast Cancer

So sorry to hear this.
Hugs to you and your sister.

Sending lots of dust to your sister.

Sending lots of dust her way!

I know two women that went through breast cancer treatment ( chemo, radiation ) in their 30s. Both had very good outcomes. My mother also went through it but at an older age and also had a positive outcome. Best wishes to your sister. Glad it was caught early.

I'm sorry, Sphenequeen. I'm hoping for the best possible outcome for your sister.

Thank you all for the support and the kind words. Also, thank you for sharing your stories. It is amazing to me how pervasive this is, even in younger women. All of your kindness really means a lot to me...

Dust outgoing. Please keep us posted. I'm glad they caught it early!

Sending DUST ************************* to your sister and you, sphenequeen.

Healing vibes and prayers coming as well.

I've been meaning to write but have been caught up in everything. I think your sister is very lucky they caught it so early. I have to admit, I'm surprised at double mastectomy, especially so young.... I assume she was positive for BRC gene. I do think that at her age, aggressive is the way. Keep us updated!

She just got tested for the BRC gene two days ago and is awaiting results. In the meantime she opted for the double because of how uncommon it is for someone her age to get cancer (0.5 %) and she wants the peace of mind that it won't come back. To have to deal with this in her other breast at another time is just too much for her to manage. Additionally, she is a mother to twin girls (4.5 y/o) and she wants to make sure she lives a long, healthy life for them.

Yesterday she had an MRI. I will keep you all posted with the info. I think the more informed we stay (especially as women), the more we can do to fight this disease.

Lots of dust and positive thoughts to your sister and hugs for you!

It sounds like she's getting great care with responsive doctors. I hope they get everything they need and that she has many many healthy years with you and her family.

Whoa.

So sorry to hear about this.

I'm not too sure what this 'dust' business is (feel free to enlighten me), but I'm going straight to prayers and positive energy for your sister and the whole dang family.

I'm sticking with the 'caught early' part. I know a gal who is in her mid 80's and had breast cancer 30 years ago. Ticking along like a hot damn she is. Cancer-free.

I am sorry that I have not checked back in with all of you who gave dust to my sister. I had a baby since I first posted this thread and things with my sister have been ok, but less than ideal.

She had a double mastectomy at the end of May, but they were not able to get clear margins. She is currently undergoing chemo and after 4 rounds, she will have to have radiation and medication. It is hard for all of us to believe a) that she has cancer, and b) that they were not able to get it all after such a radical procedure. The good news is that she does not have it in her lymph nodes. They also determined that it is not genetic. After having the procedure and discovering that the margins were not cleared, they determined that the type of cancer she got has a high rate of recurrence (hence the chemo and radiation).

I have to say that I am in awe of her strength and desire to get well. She looks incredible, even without hair! The part that is hardest for her is a few days after the treatments when her bones really ache.

That is the update so far. This is going to be a long journey, but we are all behind her! I appreciate all of the positive energy that you sent her way.

This must be so difficult :(sad Sending you and your sister hugs, dust, positive thoughts...

And congratulations on your baby, too...it's a light of joy for you and I'm sure to your sister too.
