It sounds like he''s going to be okay, but we just got back from the emergency vet and the news isn''t fun. Earlier tonight, my DH heard a crash in our basement (our cats had been chasing eachother around the house) and he went to investigate (we still don''t know what happened, btw). He came upstairs, holding my cat in his arms, and said very calmly, "Get your shoes on, we need to go to the vet right now." Morty''s mouth was covered in blood and he was being very quiet. He''d licked the blood off by the time we got to the vet, but was still acting quiet. The emergency vet said that it''s either a dislocated jaw or a broken jaw, but most likely the latter, since it''s very difficult for a cat to dislocate his jaw without breaking something. It looks pretty scary - his big bottom tooth is almost centered in his mouth. They didn''t take x-rays because they said it just made more sense to treat the pain and for us to call the surgery specialist vet first thing in the morning, where they''ll take ortho x-rays and hopefully perform surgery in the am.

I know it''s a little silly to ask for dust for a pet who is going to be okay, but Morty is so special to me and it hurts to see him in pain. If you can spare a little dust, can you sprinkle it his way in hopes that a) he can get into surgery tomorrow and b) it goes ok?

And - if anyone has ever had a kitty with a broken jaw before, I''d be really interested to know anything about how the healing process went for your furbaby.

Thanks so much!

I hope your kitty is fine... *hugs* I know having a pet at the vets under emergency circumstances can be nerve racking. Hopefully it''s not that bad.

Aw El! I''m sorry! Poor thing, it''s always sad to see them in pain.

Sounds like he got a little too frisky and crashed his face! I''m sure he''ll be fine, they have great pain meds available. (Lucky things).

Let us know how it goes tomorrow, if you get any info about it!

Your DH is so sweet. My FF would have been like "You go and see what happened" and I''d come back with the cat in arms and he''d say "Wait.. we have to go NOW?" Lol. At least your DH is on top of things!

Lots of dust for your kitty. I hope he feels better soon!

I hope Morty will be OK. Sending good thoughts your way. I would be worried too.

Gotta love Google. I looked up feline jaw fracture. Just as the vet said, it''s painful (thus the meds) but should be a fairly routine fix. Poor little kitty furball. He got carried away with playtime. Sorta makes you feel like the mom that yells "OK now, settle down you guys before someone get''s hurt"

Hopefully he''ll have a decent night and some quick surgery tomorrow. Dust, dust, dust for the kitty.

Fingers crossed and TONS of dust to you and sweet Morty - I hope they can get him all fixed up ASAP!!

Oh poor Morty; sending PS dust for your sweetie kitty. Keep us posted too and a huge hug for you {{{{Elmorton}}}}

Dust ... hugs ... whatever you need: outgoing! I hope the morning comes asap. Waiting is awful. Once Morty gets his drugs, maybe you should take a Tylenol PM or Benedryl or something to help you sleep...

GET BETTER SOON MORTY!!!

I''ll of course update and let you all know how it went. Again, thanks for the Morty dust - you have no idea how much it''s comforted me :)

Oh oh! Ditto! Poor littl furbaby! DUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

El-lots of dust and hugs to you and your fur baby!

OH, your poor kitty! So much DUST for him!

Best of luck to your kitty!! Normally recovery is fine but it just takes a while. Depending on what they have to do, it can mean that it can take a few days for your cat to be able to eat by itself again and mashed up/watery food will be needed for a while but they recover really well. They will give him excellent pain relief though so he shouldn''t be in any pain.

Ohhhh my goodness! POOR BABY!

That sounds so painful, the poor thing!

Thank you all SO MUCH for the dust!! I am totally a believer in the power of it - we got great news!!!

Morty''s jaw was NOT broken as the ER vet guessed, but dislocated. It was still an uncomfortable procedure to get it back (the vet had to basically wiggle the jaw back into place and it took a few times before his teeth would fit together like they''re supposed to), but the vet told us that Morty''s not really out of the woods quite yet. When they finally did get the jaw back in place, it was still super loose. The vets working on him thought about gluing his teeth together, but ultimately decided that he''ll be happier without doing that. However, if the jaw does slide out of place again, we''ll have to take him back to get the teeth glued together. So, please keep up the dust that doesn''t have to happen! Even for now, Morty''s going to be pretty uncomfortable, needs to eat liquid foods, and needs to be separated from Elmo (our other kitty) for awhile.

...which presents us with a bit of a problem. Some of you may have read in my FH&H thread that my house is a little torn up right now since we''ve been restoring the woodwork in our bedroom. We have a pretty open floor plan and only three interior doors in our entire house: one is the bathroom, the other is the guest room where we''re currently sleeping and where almost all the contents of our bedroom are currently housed, and then there is the bedroom we''re working on. We''ve decided to halt progress on the restoration, and make the bedroom into the kitty R&R room, so there''s a BUNCH of work that we need to do tonight to get all the chemicals and paint, work tables, drop cloths, etc cleared out of that room so it''s Morty-friendly - and it also means that my house is going to be torn up for a few weeks longer, since we wont'' be able to continue working. But, at least we have a solution and a place where Morty can stay, have his litterbox, food, etc all in one place. DH and I panicked for a minute when we realized how hard it would be to actually separate the kitties - I know it''s going to be hard on them since they''re always together, but just the physical aspect of making sure they''re separate is kinda tough in our little house.

I think it''s going to be a loooong week...but the outcome is almost as good as it could possibly be. Thanks so much for your support, kind words, and most of all, all the dust!!!

Poor baby! I am sorry you are having to endure this, get well soon dust coming your way!

Oh, poor little baby!! Good to hear it''s not broken.
