It sounds like he''s going to be okay, but we just got back from the emergency vet and the news isn''t fun. Earlier tonight, my DH heard a crash in our basement (our cats had been chasing eachother around the house) and he went to investigate (we still don''t know what happened, btw). He came upstairs, holding my cat in his arms, and said very calmly, "Get your shoes on, we need to go to the vet right now." Morty''s mouth was covered in blood and he was being very quiet. He''d licked the blood off by the time we got to the vet, but was still acting quiet. The emergency vet said that it''s either a dislocated jaw or a broken jaw, but most likely the latter, since it''s very difficult for a cat to dislocate his jaw without breaking something. It looks pretty scary - his big bottom tooth is almost centered in his mouth. They didn''t take x-rays because they said it just made more sense to treat the pain and for us to call the surgery specialist vet first thing in the morning, where they''ll take ortho x-rays and hopefully perform surgery in the am.
I know it''s a little silly to ask for dust for a pet who is going to be okay, but Morty is so special to me and it hurts to see him in pain. If you can spare a little dust, can you sprinkle it his way in hopes that a) he can get into surgery tomorrow and b) it goes ok?
And - if anyone has ever had a kitty with a broken jaw before, I''d be really interested to know anything about how the healing process went for your furbaby.
Thanks so much!
