on tuesday afternoon, my co-worker''s 12 yr old son was rushed to the pediatric intensive care unit as a diabetic in a borderline coma status with dangerously high ketoacidosis. the family had no warning signs, up until now he has been a healthy, active boy (i''m fairly certain he even went trick-or-treating on halloween with his brothers and got the traditional yearly candy loot).

he was taken off the insulin pump yesterday evening and was able to eat a light supper (and had sugar free popsicles which he was quite happy about) but he still has a long road of recovery and getting his body re-adjusted ahead of him, not to mention having to deal with this for the rest of his life.

both his mom and dad work with me and are absolutely lovely people and i know how wonderful ps dust is so if you could spare a little and send it there way i know they''d be eternally grateful.

Wishing for a speedy recovery for your coworker''s son, Squirrly. I''m sorry to hear about that.

How scary for them! Wishing him a speedy recovery and the family well as they adjust to their son''s needs.

Lots of prayers for your friends. Luckily, diabetes is well controlled and he will be able to live a normal life. One of my best friends was diagnosed with diabetes at 9 and her daughter was diagnosed at 4. They''re both on pumps and do great with them. I hope this little boy would be a good candidate too.

and i do hope he is a candidate for a pump.

he''s had his insulin for the night and while things are still going slowly, they''re going in a good direction. they hope to be out of intensive care by monday.
