on tuesday afternoon, my co-worker''s 12 yr old son was rushed to the pediatric intensive care unit as a diabetic in a borderline coma status with dangerously high ketoacidosis. the family had no warning signs, up until now he has been a healthy, active boy (i''m fairly certain he even went trick-or-treating on halloween with his brothers and got the traditional yearly candy loot).
he was taken off the insulin pump yesterday evening and was able to eat a light supper (and had sugar free popsicles which he was quite happy about) but he still has a long road of recovery and getting his body re-adjusted ahead of him, not to mention having to deal with this for the rest of his life.
both his mom and dad work with me and are absolutely lovely people and i know how wonderful ps dust is so if you could spare a little and send it there way i know they''d be eternally grateful.
