I was in Saks the other day, and looking at their fabulous selection of designer gowns at 75% off, I was reminded to remind all the newer brides to be that that can be an excellent way of getting a quality designer (Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka, etc.) gown for about $1000-1500. Not wedding gowns per se, but gorgeous gowns in whites and off whites. Check out the sales at Saks and Neiman Marcus if you're not set on the 'bridal salon' experience and you don't mind something slightly unconventional!

Thanks IndGal! I just love this forum for members like you! Everyone is so helpful and thoughtful of others. Planning my wedding will be so easy with the help of PS!

Ditto!

I noticed that Dillard''s had cute Wedding Dresses when I was looking for BM dresses. http://www.dillards.com/endeca/EndecaStartServlet?N=1604013

Big plug for bridepower.com ... you can get couture gowns for less than $500! Best to know what styles and designers suit you before you order though.

I think BCBG has some of the most beautiful dresses. A white long gown off the rock runs about $400

And then there''s Nicole Miller. Great gowns for under $1000, plus they have fabulous sales in June and January... I got my NM gown for less than $300 on sale off the rack.

I totally agree, Independent Gal. There are some great full-length gowns out there that could easily be used as wedding dresses.

I got my dress at Macy''s Bridal by Demetrios. So, when I was leaving the store after picking up my wedding dress I passed a slew of beautiful white, off-white, and ivory full-length dresses (since this was early May, I assume they were intended to be prom dresses). I stopped and checked out a price tag: $325. I then proceeded to kick myself for not considering that option.

prom season will be here soon, and some of those dresses are insanely fancy...i bet some would work as wedding dresses. also, i''ve been checking out some bridesmaid dresses in white for myself, because those are much cheaper than buying an actual wedding gown. just some other ideas. :-)

Bridal by Macy''s?? I never even knew about this!

It''s a bridal salon within Macy''s (but separated a bit from the actual store) and all the dresses are by Demetrios.
