Would anyone be interested in a downstate NY get together Memorial Day weekend? Long weekend means extra day for fun!

I cannot join Memorial Day weekend but care to be more specific for those who can...i.e. specifically where Downstate?

NYC, LI lol

Ok that should help people, decide. Sorry I'm missing it. Memorial Day is a big weekend down the shore. Fingers crossed for good weather!

Man, if it wasn't so close to my upcoming Brooklyn trip to visit my SIL.....

Hey I'm open to other dates I'm just wanting to mingle and blingle lololol!

Pinto you're a hoot!

I went to Port Jefferson last year for a wedding, so nice there and the people are lovely. Would be a great place for a get together. I just don't know if I'm a player for this year, it depends on how well I do on a train to Brooklyn.

Introvert problems ;)

I always wear something with a hood that I put on in the train. It's like my own personal partition lololol.

You can all come to southwestern Connecticut, which is just across The Long Island Sound from Long Island, and then I won't have to deal with that awful, dreadful traffic! When I was hoping to meet diamondseeker, I suggested she stay at The Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. It's gorgeous. Betteridge Jewelers in Greenwich has expanded and moved to a new location on Greenwich Avenue (and it was to die for before), but I haven't been into the new store yet. It could be a field trip.

Oh I would love that! Then I could do a day in Greenwich and then a day in Mystic CT and go to the aquarium and then Mohegan Sun bahahahaa! I've never explored Mystic!

I'm in for CT and any excuse to go to Mystic!

Mystic is fabulous. The ships are fun. The aquarium is better (in my opinion). The shops outside the aquarium can take an entire day to explore in themselves! Sooooo cute! We used to have a membership there when my daughter was little, even though the car ride was tedious from where we lived. My daughter loved the Beluga whales and we sometimes got soaked when they performed. I don't know if they have them anymore.

ETA: They do!

I need something to do Memorial weekend

I personally can do anytime pretty much if it's in CT. If traveling is involved it may be a different story unless I can carpool with someone like Deb even though she doesn't know me from a speck of dirt

I will be out of the country from the end of may till end of June... any other time I should be able to make any NYC get togethers.

Diamondseeker and Callie and I (and potentially a few other lovely PS ladies) were planning a mini GTG in NYC the last weekend of October because one of the antique jewelry shows is scheduled around that time and Callie is visiting me anyway. It would be lovely if some other PSers wanted to meet up at that time too.:appl:

There is no one whom I would rather meet, but I loathe New York City. I had a great time there the last time I spent a few days there, but I think the last time I went there and spent those few days (at a hotel, free, because my husband had attended some event where he was given a free weekend at a luxury hotel as compensation) was about a month after 9/11. That means it was in 2001. Which means it was almost 16 years ago. I really can live without New York.

What if we did it on Long Island and went to visit GOG and had Phil's pizza? I just went yesterday and made sure to get 4 slices from Phil's after I left GOG. The surprise standout was the mac and cheese on pretzel crust. The consistent goody for me is their buffalo pizza slice. And two other special slices that no one around is making are the French onion soup slice and the grilled cheese and tomato soup slice. I follow their IG bc I'm a glutton for punishment. Their entrees look good too. Oh yeah I did see a dessert pizza pie with chocolate on it. I put my blinders on.

I'll even let you hug me! People like to hug me and kiss the top of my head. It's odd lolol. Monnie tried to drag me home with her on her way out of the Chicago Gtg.

Well to be fair Deb, you visited a month after 9/11. Not a good time for any of us especially NYC. I am sorry you hate NYC and I hope you will give it another chance but either way of course I understand.

Indeed it was not "a good time" for any of us, but it was, actually, a wonderful time to visit New York City. My husband and I wanted to support the city, which was suffering economically. No one wanted to go there. Broadway casts came on-stage and thanked the (sparse) audience members for their support. Taxi drivers were grateful for patrons, as were restaurants. My husband's office had been very close to ground zero; been off-limits (guarded by The National Guard) and full of dust for days after the explosions. Both of us wanted to be in there then. No one remembers how afraid tourists were to go to New York right after 9/11.

I did my undergraduate and some of my graduate work (one of my master's degrees) in New York City so I am not a complete stranger to it. I believe one could say I have "given it a chance" by living in Manhattan!

We appreciate your support Deb. I was working 2 blocks from the Trade towers and it was horrific. I still remember it like it was yesterday and my heart still aches for all the people murdered in the 9/11 terror attacks and all the terror attacks all over the world. Truly boggles the mind how people can hate so much so fiercely without abatement.:cry::cry:

Anyway not trying to change your mind. Just wanted to say 16 years ago is indeed a long time ago and 9/11 (temporarily) devastated the city. Not in human spirit or generosity but well we were living in a mess and nothing was operating smoothly during that time and while it was indeed a great time to lend support it was not a great time to be a sightseer in NYC. Which of course would be a very different occasion for any PSers visiting for a mini GTG and antique jewelry show. Just sayin. :wavey:

ETA:I emailed you Deb. And FYI I would love to meet you irl. (((Hugs))).

Awww Pinto -you know that is not true. Memorial day weekend is a big holiday weekend for so many people. I mean we already have 3 parties we are attending at the shore and believe me when I say I would rather hang with you than go to 3 parties LOL. Buuuuut when we get back we will play!!!! It's a date! Those kitties and puppies need us.:halo::kiss:

Hey Pinto don't feel bad, we don't have anything going on for Memorial Day either. It will just be another day of trying to keep the kids occupied so they don't kill each other
