I LOVE my Boston Terrier, my world revolves around he and my husband. Yet, I cannot embrace living among the dog hair. He is allowed on the furniture, he will be 3 next week and to be honest we love sitting/sleeping with him so that is something that we are not willing to change. I have light khaki color furniture (those darn Pottery Barn swatches look ALOT darker than the real thing

) and his black hairs on the furniture drive me batty. I literally vacuum the furniture with the attachment EVERY day...Is there a better way??? What is the secret?

Ideas welcome

Put throws or blankets on the furniture. Pull them off when company comes and just throw them in the washer once a week.

Agree, this is the only way I''ve found to keep the hair off our furniture, too. I use flat bed sheets.

I''ve done this multiple times and it really seems to be the only solution but my evil OCD twin

comes out and I think it looks sloppy on our furniture....I know, I know...Short of wrapping my dog in saran wrap there really is no solution.

These Pledge Fabric Sweeper work like magic for removing pet hair from fabric, and it''s certainly easier than pulling the vacuum out every day. The only negative is that they are quite wasteful/not eco-friendly. There is no way to re-use the plastic housing, so you have to throw the product out and purchase a new one when it becomes full.

Another idea - you could get a doggie-specific blanket for the sofa, which might seem less messy-looking to you.

My friend has 3 dogs that shed excessivley and she swears by the furminator. Luckily my dog does not shed so that allows a lot of cuddle time in bed Though he isn''t allowed on the furniture, he can go on the bed only when his blanket is on it. If the blanket is not there he doesn''t get on the bed.

Um...I don't have a dog that sheds but how about brushing your dog daily or every other day to keep the shedding to a minimal? That's what I did for my kitty to keep the shedding to a minimal. Brushing my cat daily helps A LOT!

Funny now that I think about it. I shed more than my dog does now!

haha, I''ve got one of those too ..

We have 3 dogs. 2 shed (black hair & white hair). They''re allowed on the couches also, so I feel your pain.

There is the Furminator, which is a grooming tool that removes the undercoat. It''s crazy how much hair you can get off your dog. We own one, but I''m super lazy and haven''t been using it .. we also have the Pledge Fabric Sweeper, and it honestly leaves our couches looking brand new. It''s awesome

But basically, there really just isn''t a solution that doesn''t take a lot of effort. The little buggers are just so cute that I put up with it lol

I use disposable latex gloves (like the medical ones). You just swipe the fabric and it creates a charge causing the hair to stick together. Works like a charm and they are cheap and reusable.

Thanks so much for the feedback...I will invest in a Pledge thingamabob soon

Actually, I have figured out a few ways to reuse them!

You can actually (carefully) detach one of the rollers and pull out the hair from underneath, then just snap the roller back in. You can also slit the clear top with a utility knife and pull out the hair, and then put a piece of duct tape over the slit. Oh yeah, babeee, stay with me...

I LOVE that product, they work GREAT, but honestly, I think it''s *ridiculous* how *disposable* they claim to be. It''s just wasteful!

I have found that after about 2 or 3 "refills" the rollers do kinda give out, and you will have to toss it. But hey, that''s not toooooo bad!

I love love love the furminator and I love my Dyson! Those two things keeps me sane!! I''m gonna have to try that Pledgerollingthingamajig as well. I''ve heard they''re awesome from friends and family!

We have 3 furkids. And they too, are allowed on the furniture. When we reupholstered the couches, I purchased extra matching fabric. All week long (ie: when no "guests" in the house) I cover the seating area with the extra fabric (which has been hemmed neatly so it doesn't look like a rag).

Maybe you can purchase matching fabric from Pottery Barn for your sofas? I bought enough to cover completely from one side to the other, plus a few feet either way to tuck it all in.

We used to use big bathtowels but it always felt tacky. This way, the couches look 'normal' but when guests arrive, I just grab the extra cover and we're good to go. It's a lot easier to just wash these extra covers than trying to remove fur from the permanent upholstery. Kind of like a slipcover but not nearly the work involved to get it on.

So even when sweet DH and I are enjoying Saturday morning tea with the 'kids', I dont' feel like I'm living in a mess. Visually the couches look the same, but the double layer really helps alot.
